Blue plastic training ammo

Has anyone used the blue German plastic training ammo in thier 1919? Was wondering if it will cycle/fire properly. I don't have the gun yet, but am in the parts collecting stage. I have the opportunity to get some locally for a good price, but would like to know if it will work.

I am told it is 90's German manufacture, the label reads:

AM 32
500 PATRONE, UEBUNG,
7.62 mm x 51, DM18A1B1

it's doesn't cycle an FAL, pretty loud though

I believe there was discussion of this a few months ago in a thread. there were questions asked about both the blue plastic training round and the green plastic blank round, both German manufactured. I know the blanks have been able to be cycled successfully with the proper adapter, but i haven't heard many updates on the blue live round recently. IIRC guys said the blue ones were originally made for German military weapons that had lighter internals that the blue round would cycle. I'm sure someone will weigh in on that. You might try doing a keyword search on here for the thread.... perhaps "german blue plastic rounds" etc..... but I know the topic was tossed around.

The case head is a bit smaller than the Nato round, might need a little work there. I have a rollerless bolt and carrier for G3/91 and a Nato round will not seat in the bolt. The bolt and carrier are quite a bit lighter than a normal G3/91 setup, so, I think with a lot of tinkering it may work. If I wanted to try it, here's where I'd start. A lightened bolt, remove the accelerator, remove the bolt lock and give it a go. You may also need to reduce the diameter of the hole in the booster. It would be just a blowback 1919, you would NOT want to fire real stuff in this setup, that would be a BAD thing. Cloth belts may be the way to go also. May need some type of an auxiliary recoil spring, I would want the bolt to just "kiss" the buffer, but it would need to have enough power to cycle the action.

If I wanted to do it, I think this is where I'd start. I just might try it over this winter for fun. I'm waiting to see if someone brings in training bolts and carriers for the MG 3, that would be a cheep way to play with the semi MG 42.

On the correct track....

This is what I would try.... Booster end drill, tap, insert set screw, weld or SS, drill out to .35 to clear the plastic bullet.

See if that will work first. If it does then work up on the hole tell you like the way it works.

If not then work on both springs to take a coil out or measure the poundage and work down.
Remember that the main spring can be lightened but the spring on the lock may not let the gun unlock in the first place....
What I'm talking about is with less pressure on the spring in the lock, may let it unlock and the normal main spring can be used.
the key thing is to get it to unlock with the booster or booster and lighter lock spring then work on your main spring.

The lock spring is also called a "Barrel Plunger Spring"

Thanks guys......very interesting. I will do a search (don't know what I was thinking) I'll do some more reading and maybe I'll pick up 500 rounds while it's local (to save on shipping later) and tinker with it when I get my project built. Worse case scenario, I can shoot it in my Israeli Mausers.

That bolt and carrier is made for the HK series , specifically for the blue training ammo. And it works great, semi and full auto.

If you wanted a starting point for a Browning, I'd go with a 22 bolt and narrow up the T-slot. The 22 bolt is exactly half the weight of a normal bolt. 22 bolt may even need further lightening.

Won't cycle anything

BUT I do know the plastic 9mm will go through a wooden door and bounce of a standard garage door.

Don't know abt your wood door, but won't penetrate solid wood door. However I use blue 9mm in my Taurus 905 revolver to dispatch possum's & coon's eating out of my outdoor kitty's food bowl. Even have a motion alarm & video camera keeping a lookout.

Sure beats the "Late Show" since JC retired.
