In my experiance.. the 100rnd belts with the brass gromets are only for 30-06 or 8mm. They are just way too tight for 308, even with trying to load 308 with a 1918 belt loader was rough..and even ripped one of the loops..
Maybe a single stage loader might work better??
The USGI 225 belts with the brass or steel tabs work OK with 308.
My single-stage from JJ Custom loaded up .308 on IMA belts without a problem. The cloth that makes up the IMA belts is a bit "thinner" than the white 250 round belts I have and they stretch to fit the .308 just fine. As it happens, I loaded up four of them yesterday.
