I think we're there. Version #6 worked great, loaded a 250 round belt in under 4 minutes with no hitches (2 guys, feeder & cranker). Roy ran a 125 by him self (tray holds 25) and no hitches, took about 8 minutes. Lenn's shuttle worked great and the 250 rounder was a flat new belt. Going to have my CAD girl produce some fab drawings and do a few final prototypes before we set up some tooling, will need to send them out for a test run. Need a couple of guinea pigs for the experiment. Anybody have **** load of 06 to load? :)

Thats one of the slickest gun related pieces of machinery I've seen in ten years. Nice job!!!

Does it always run that smoothe?

What is the fastest you've had it running without messing up?

Again, nice job!!!

You could rent time on that at major shoots and pay for your ammo.:D

Ouchman,
Yep it does. Only this time I used a fiber optic "eye" (notice the cable under the tray) so that it could be used in all 3 (3006, 8mm, 308) and get an extra round in the belt before it turns off. :D
Finalygotabeltfed,
Thanks,
It runs even better with brass cases. The steel cased Romy was a BIT*H to get to run right. I loaded well over 25,000 to get to load at least 2 belts in a row with no "opps". :( Also check out my other YouTube vid's for how fast it can go. A half inch drill was the first AutoLoader motor. Now if I could just get that fast of a feeder system.
rory,
Thanks also, as you guys likely have guessed, I do like playing with these things.
Roadie,
It even has a small tapered spacer in it ya can't see to help out with the case angle that the 8mm has. Hope this last part helps with your tray.

I think the main reason the stick type vertical doesn't work well is that folks screw the loader to a solid bench. I tried it on a rickety crate and it worked very well with all the extra jiggleing. The only hard part is getting someone to fill it fast enough.
The tray chute is the way to go though.HMMMM, maybe a hopper to feed the tray?
Anyone have connections in the near east that can get some 500 or 1000 round belts made up?

....impressive....!!

Just could not look at this thread without giving credit to you guys for your positive words for roadie. He has done a marvelous job in building and engineering this sorely needed piece of equipment. The tray should make an easy job of loading the cloth belts. As Lucky said a while back,we are known as..."men of the cloth"....LOL....and should wear the title proudly. Roadie... you are offically and proudly nominated to be inducted into this worthy membership. A voice vote is hereby called for.....all in favor, say "AYE". I will gladly give my positive vote.....

Thank you and I am humbled by the nomination but my goal is to ease the pain of the lowly loader. Usually no respect, occasionally got to pull the trigger and always had to clean the weapon. Hopefully now he can rise above and be recoginzed for his efforts. I am endeavoring to make this happen.
