saw a water cooled 1919 or 1917 that a marine was carrying on his shoulder on the history channel show that had slots cut into the water jacket , i think they made it field modifed air cooled out of it . sucks i can't find a pic of it on the net

That is interesting, post the pics if ya find them. I have a F/A 1919 and while i do love it, a freind of mine and a member of this board has a 17 and they are a AWESOME GUN! They just chug along, never stopping and the steam is cool. The only thing i wouldnt like is the brass trunion, i like runnin links.

I'd like to see that pic too. I saw a pic of some GIs in WWII shooting a Maxim and it had a grooved water jacket.

What would the grooves be for, weight reduction?

Did it have a HUGE filling cap on the water jacket?

I may have been Russian M1910 Maxim. I think the grooves are for strength, but they would also serve to increase the surface area, whic would help with cooling.

IMA has M1910 kits, but they are going fast.
