Am I reading this right? Someone is trying to buy a 1919 from a posting in 2006? Check those dates if you dig down in the pile like that ;)

I noticed that also. The ad must have been back on page 300 something in the ad board from way back in 2006 back when I was still a kid.

I'm thinking Abominog was having a little fun just pointing out how cheap these used to be. He would get together with tooly if he needed one on the cheap, lol. Heck, unless you get a real killer deal on the kit, you can't home build one for that now. Just add $150-$200 for an RSP and, what, $125 or $135 (?) for a KMP trigger and sear these days. Even if you do your own machining, a $900 kit will cost you more than this!

You have to admit $1000 for a semi 1919 was stupid low. In the big scheme of things they should have never been under $3000.

Really? Kits were readily available for $400.00 and some change - cheaper for lower grade. How could one possible justify $3K for a completed build?

Were that true, I never would have had my hands on a half dozen of them or been subjected to the addiction I suffered over the years of belt feds. :)

We were building post sample guns back in the 90s, and as I remember they sold for $800-1100. I never even considered a semi auto market back then. Too busy I guess.

I remember five pallets of kits at OOW for $299 and you could pick through them for what you wanted.
Oh those were the days. A buddy and I walked away with 15 of them, after paying of course. :D

Yeah, my first taste of these 1919's was back in about 2002, after meeting with Gary from Weaponeer.Net, and getting 3 hand picked excellent condition kits at [email protected] IIRC. Had no clue how to build one at that time. :D

Well a gas grill is $500 a Luger is $1200 a new sig is $1000 a DSA FAL is $1500 a PTR G3 is $900 the new Red Label is $1200 etc so no matter how u slice it a semi 1919 should be worth lots more than that.

I remember seeing kits for sale at The Sportsman Guide fairly cheap in the $400.00 range but I already had one and had done nothing with it at the time. Then one time I was going through the stuff on their sales table and came across a bag of parts. They were all of the internal parts and I believe the top cover for a M1919A4. I think they wanted $75.00 for them and i didn't think I would ever need them so I didn't purchase it. I later discovered that every thing on the table had been 50% off.

Soft spot for the Red Label here. What actually happened with Ruger on this line is the production cost climbed and sales decreased. Time moved on and they dropped it from production, but as machine capability changed it was revived. Production cost decreased and they dropped the price from around $1800(?) to a more affordable $1200.
Wish they would do the same with the 10/22's I need for supplying the expanding number of grandchildren. Currently just going with drop in .22 bolts for their first AR.

Yes. But you said "was" implying back when - not "is". At least that is the way I understood it. Maybe I was wrong.

It would be stupid low in today's environment. agreed. ;)
