Used plywood as I thought that would be in keeping with mid-war economies. Not all details pictured as I make changes from time to time. The pics show early verification of dimensions (I did make changes as a result of this early fitting), the completed box and divider with gun and ammo boxes in place, interior of the box showing leather protectors in place, carry handle detail and close-up of box top stencils.
Box used one sheet of 1/4 plywood and several feet of 1X2 pine. Fastened with drywall screws and glue. Some aging effect included, mostly my poor woodworking. However, I would think that most boxes were just shipping crates adapted to another use and thus crudely made in the first place. The box accommodates the gun with butt-stock and bipod attached. The box keeps the spare barrel, machete, cleaning rod, oilcans, manuals and other items handy.
This is my second box built, the first carries an A4 with tripod. Jon at Browning MGs has pics of it in the homebuilt section. I do enjoy the challenge of building these items with only handtools.
