I'm thinking of getting one of these with the detachable butt stock. Are the new ones any better than the old ones? They look to be made well and have corrected some of the problems that I could find out about (Cutts comp pinned in place, rear sight mounted with screws). What's your thoughts about them good or bad. Thanks for your help!!:D

I never knew they had any problems. Every one of them i even saw or shot were real nice. They are a little heavy ,but still nice.
I i know on the screws that hold on the rear site some people had to thread lock them ,but that is all i have ever heard.

I have never heard of the Cutts coming off ,but i do remember the rivets on the sights ,but man that was a long time ago. But you may still need to lock tight the screws on the rear sight . The one we were shooting the screw came out and fell on the ground ,lucky we found it.

I have a WH Auto Ordnance LW 1927a1. I bought it used and did some smithing on the bolt, trigger to get it to shoot half way good. I had to put in a new Khar bolt which had to be milled to fit, and now it runs without a hitch with every pull of the trigger. It even runs with my bridgeport drum flawlessly with all 50rds.
I would say that it would be fine to get a new one. Install a 1928 lyman sight, early drum, and lots of ammo.
Watch out using reloads from a friend, I ran a drum full that he made along with a double charge. It didn't hurt the gun or anyone, but made a large blast out the ejection port. Had to dig case out with niddlenose pliers.

Semi Auto Thompson

Well I've came to the conclusion that none of them are worth a nickle.
Friends old model is falling a part so the old Auto Ord not worth it.
Talked to the dealer yesterday he said he has sold several of the Kahr model none of them work well. He's been sending them back for repair and they come back worse. He said don't waste your money.

Pretty bad when the (Knoxville TN based) Commando was a better mouse trap, and still about half the price. ;)

Sweetwine,

You might want to grab a nice 1928 parts kit now, start buying up parts for the detachable stock conversion, soon there will be a nice semi-auto conversion for the '28 kits. Should you decide NOT to build it, the parts kit will gain some value in the near future, you're not going to lose money there. :D

Thompson

You are right about buying a parts set Blackrifles but it was ether that of another 45 auto pistol, got a soft spot for them. So I have a Kimber Warrior comming.:D Might get a conversion unit for it too.
To bad Kahr can't do it right the first time, so much for their engineers.

I was looking to get an Auto Ord but was talked out of the purchase by the salesman at SARCO,"they all are crap". "Better off building your own."
Hard to believe that a company would ramp up and produce crap and charge premium bucks for it. But after having a TNW M2HB fail for a faulty breech lock I wonder. The TNW failure was due to a sub standard part that escaped the system and trickled into the market. The Auto Ord Thompsons are (as far as I know) completely made at the factory. No reason for a crappy product. It just may be the stuff made from parts kits are better????? I've heard the TNW BARs are great. My Valkerie grease gun is about fair. Some how the stuff I build gets no compliants but there are countless threads about "store bought" A4s and M2 variants from certain manufactures. Would anyone care to elaborate on this? Is it poor QC? Bad design? With the A4s I don't think it's a learning curve as I have an early Lee Machine &Tool in an Izzy kit that runs like a preacher's dick up a calves' ass. So what going on here???

Man I really hate hearing such bad things about the Kahr Thompsons... Cuz I am still set on gettin the commando model... I gotta have a thompson in the collection and its all I can afford... I dont plan on it being a regular shooter, but still, no one wants to own an unreliable gun... not sure where to go on this one... I mean if its something I can do a little work on and improve then thats not so bad... what seems to be the common problems with them??

Poor Quality

If you want it done right you have to do it yourself. It seems like the small ninch gun companies don't really care about their quality of product. You have to look at people who buy thompsons, 1919's, BAR's & etc is a small market. They seem to want to take the money and run like they stoled it.
When you do it yourself you take the extra time to do it right the first time.
I know there are some good companies out there lets hope they continue to be. Kahr lost me as a customer, to bad.
