The much Heralded documentary on the history channel about this time in our history as a nation is a burn. Tom Brokaw has reminded us of a time we don't need to forget .But to compare this war in Iraq ,and our troops to the events in Viet Nam is wrong. The VC didn't down the twin towers, thus declaring war on our nation as the Japs did in 1941 at Pearl Harbor .Also the Liberals need to remember who was in power in 1968 ? the Democrats ,It took the Republicans in power to try and clean up a 10 year mess. Both failed.

Not following the comparison with the VC and the twin towers. It wasn't The Iraqi nation or its leadership that was behind this atrocity. We went into Afganistan to chase down the scum behind that. We went to Iraq for other reasons I'm not clear on. Something to do with WMDs, regional stability, and human rights or something. Can not understand how so many intelligent people connect AlQueda with why we are in Iraq. I guess if a lie is repeated often enough....

I'm betting you don't have any children, nieces, nephews or are serving in the militery yourself. I would think the people being sniped at and dodging the famous IED's care why they are in Iraq. Some of them think they are there smacking down the people responsible for the world trade centers too. We need to let Iraq run Iraq. Let the people elect some new leaders and get the heck out of there. Let Haliburton and Exxon fend for themselves.

It is funny how we all forget what is important, OUR MILTARY BROTHERS AND SISTERS! I keep reading about how we should get out of Iraq. The simple fact here is the people who keep saying this ARE HURTING OUR MILITARY. Do you not think that the enemy does not know that if they hurt and kill enough of our military personal that public pressure here in the USA will let them win. Think about it here, most of congress and the people of the USA backed the military action in Iraq. Whatever the reason to go to war back then, right or wrong, we are there, and have a job to do now. What ever the past is, is just that the past. We have men and women in harms way and the people who keep saying we need to get out, which keeps the snipers and IED's coming. We started a job and have a responsibility to finish it!

Now, I have a brother who has been deployed 5 times since this started, who just got back. I think about how much harm is caused by this simple fact.

Yes i have three family members fighting in the war on terror ,two of them are in Iraq ,Army ,101st air born. I was only telling what they were saying on this documentary ,and the towers did start this war on terror. The writers of this film were doing the comparison asking deserters in Canada their opinion ,not those who were actually fighting the war.My point is the entire thing was BS and i couldn't even stand to watch it anymore.

actually i am joing the Navy and have had a uncle serve in iraq. i have also had 4 close friends serve since the war started and are still serving in the rangers. so dont assume to much. but i have always supported the war in iraq from Bushes sadam get step down or we will invade you speach to now and will continue to do so. and willy useing your logic should we have not wanted to fight hitler, because that wasnt our war eigther, oh and niegther was the great war. or korea. bet the people who fought in that war didnt want to be there eigther. i wonder if our boys in ww2 ever thought that they should quit because of the tiger busting through the wall behind them while mg42s lit up. or better yet did the america public want to quit when artilery shells were falling all around american positions in the trenchs that could possibly have mustard gas in them while thousands of germans shot at them from accross no mans land. at least they had the backing of the american people.

What a strange thing to say. We were told one thing and we believed it. Then it turns out that we were lied to, and made decisions based on things that were not true. And you still think we should continue with the original plan? If you are driving down the road and you realize the bridge is out, would you just keep driving off the bridge as you need to get to where you were originally going to, or do you stop your car, and find another route? I guess you would just drive off the bridge...you have a job to do.

And the part about about how dissent keeps IEDs & snipers coming...are you nuts? If this country was 100% behind the war and everyone was as gung-ho as you are about it, it would not change the minds of who we are fighting, and there would be no change in attacks on our troops. In fact that might increase the amount of attacks on our troops.

If some federal alphabet soup agency kicks in my door based on bad information, tears my place apart and discovers they were lied to, should they arrest and prosecute anyway?

My mother drunk or sober, my country right or wrong? Should we stand by and let either continue down the wrong path?

Ha ha. What a strange thing to say. You just agreed with him. If you meant to differ you would have seen the bridge was out and just gave up and returned home. But you want to find another route?

THE WAR CONTINUES!!
Awrite!

If you forget the past you are doomed to repeat it.

Remember how long we were in Vietnam? No, of course not... silly me. Well we screwed around for 10 fargen years. Tons of money, thousands of lives too damn long. Then we got serious. Several weeks of non-stop bombing brought the lil *********** to the peace table and we got out.

We need to rethink what's going on. The surge worked. I fear we need to quadruple that to end this.

Then we can move on to Iran.

Actually I meant to say exactly what I said. You may think you know what I mean, but you would be wrong in this case. Im not saying we should just drop everything and go home. We should find a better way to do this. We should have stayed and finished what we were doing in Afghanistan. We should be using different methods to try and control what we want to control. And I do remember Vietnam. I was very young then, but I clearly remember how long it went on and all that went with it.

I think this is what Tom Brokaw was saying in the film. Many similarities between Iraq and Vietnam. Many differences too. This force is all volunteers fighting to keep gas cheap while Vietnam was draftees stopping the dominos of communism from toppeling another victim nation. I remember clearly the footage of the last helicopters leaving Saigon as the communists partied in the streets. I hope we don't exit Bagdhad the same way.

Well like the documentary said ,1968 did end on a note of national pride . At this time of year during Christmas ,Apollo 8 orbited the moon ,and read from the book of Genesis back to a world watching in awe. This had never been tryed ,and we didn't know if they would even come back or not.

It was an exciting and interesting time to be an American. The nation needs more challanges and achievments like the Apollo program. Sucks to watch China doing stuff like this now. Little robots on Mars just don't fire me up!

We did finish in Afganistan. What's happening there now is the normal progression of things. Better than what we're doing in Iraq. We should have didi'ed outta Iraq as soon as the shootin' stopped. Then when they get their asses up again, it's much easier to ***** slap them if they think they have a chance in hell of standing up to us. Right now it's gonna be a lot easier to hit the Tora Bora region with proper assets rather than hunting small bands here and there all over the fargen country.

Now days a lot of Americans wonder if NASA could even fix a ham sandwich. The History channel even had a thing about the Apollo program .In it people who work at NASA said they didn't even know if they could build a Saturn five rocket now days. The last remaining one was on show somewhere i cant remember where ,Alabama i think .They pulled it in and tore it apart to study it further although most of it was missing. They also said that the Germans like Von Braun, would keep little notes on pads as to what they wanted done ,and how to do it and we no longer have those notes ,as they were in charge of all of that. Not that we couldn't make a vehicle that big, and that powerful ,just not a Saturn five. All of this came up because of the age and failures of the Shuttle program lately ,when NASA was told to find a newer system. We need to by pass everyone ,put a colony on the moon in preparation to go to Mars.If we don't someone else will ,and if its China i doubt they will claim the Moon for all the people of Earth. And the Flags we set there will no longer be standing ( And yes we did go to the Moon ) ,Get behind a powerful enough Mead telescope and you will see.

Allright!! We are finished in Afghanistan! Did someone forget to tell the 26,000 troops still deployed there this fact? Can they come home now?

I'm kind of rooting for China to get an aggressive space program going. Look how the Russian/US space race worked out. In less than 10 years we went from JFK's challenge to "One small step for a man...". We need a strong enemy to wake the country up. Maybe enemy is too harsh a word. Opponent may be more appropriate. If we got behind a space program like we do pro football or NASCAR we could be on Mars in 2 years!:)

i got a question for people to ponder on. what if iraq did have WMDs? i know if i was sadam i would have moved them into syria or buried them in the desert when the UN started looking for them. just because we didnt find any doesnt mean they didnt exsist. so in that case maby you wernt lied to.
