Just recieved my shotgun news and was going through and found the Model 1 Sales ad. "1919 Parts Set" Less Receiver and magazine. 1919 A-4 open bolt parts set RARE. First tell me what kind of 1919 parts kit is so rare it costs $2500? Now, how many will you buy?

OPEN BOLT? Well, that would be rare alright. I am trying to recall if there was indeed an experimental open bolt variation. Back to Dolf's books again!

I know the British ANM2s were open bolt, but don't know about 1919s.

At a gunshow in Orlando, there is the same dealer who is selling a OOW kit of a 1919A4 for $850.00. No spare parts, just the basic kit. Maybe he is giving a cut rate deal of the rare version?

If it was a PURE .30-06 kit that was never sent to Israel and never converted to .308, then yes, it would be RARE.

There is a 1919 vairant that was adopted by South Africa that is an open bolt gun....the model escapes me at the moment. There was a write up about it in Small Arms Review a few years back. If this is one of those it may indeed be rare....so price accordingly.

There was also a British 1919 .30-06 gun that fired from an open bolt. I've had my hands on the parts. No they are not for sale, and yes, Very rare, only a small lot was imported awhile back.
If Brian at Model 1 is asking $2500 for it, it is because of its rarity. Anyone else ever see one offerd for sale?

Open Bolt...???

I don't have the ad right in front of me....but I'd bet it was a slip of the finger and was supposed to read "1918 Parts kit minus reciever and magazine for $2500. This is how BAR ads are usually worded and would explain the use of the words "no reciever or magazine"......and they have been asking $2500 for them lately.

NOt that great a deal... "less receiver and magazine".

Can't remember the last time I saw a 1919 mag.
Oh wait, wasn't there that one article in Small Arms Review a while back??? ;) :D

I wonder if the no magazine is to point out that it can be sold to california residents, if it had a Hi cap magazine then it couldn't be sold to Ca residents or those states with capacity restrictions. I see this all the time. Why beat the subject of, it doesn't use a magazine, being on this site I would think you guys would already know this! It probably simply refers to not coming with any type of ammunition feeding device be it mag, belt or link. If i was to sell my A4 parts kits with 1 100rd belt than I could not and would not sell it States with restrictions on Hi-Cap ammunition feeding devices.

The ad for this so called open bolt 1919 has been in the last 4 or so issues of shotgun news, I am looking at the latest issue and it's still listed as such, if it was for a 1918 BAR I would imagine they would have caught the mistake by now, it's the same picture of the 1919.

Rollin, they are not rare. Scarce, perhaps but you can't really say they are rare. No good for the semi guys, open bolt is a no-no for youse. And on top of it, to rape the customer to the tune of $2500 is pretty piss-poor. Figure a parts set is going for about $399, lets say $500 for poopies and smilies. That means he's charging $2000 for a few parts!! Any of you jump on that deal yet?

However, for the full auto guys, I know where the parts to change YOUR A4 to open bolt are. One full set of parts, everything you need to change your gun to open bolt, for only $450.

(standing aside to let the stampede go by...)

Well?

You may be right. If the kit's are just US made guns with the open bolt internals, then the price may be just a tad high. ;) I would say that if the kits were British mfg, collector interest could be a factor. But I wouldn't know how to gauge the value.
