Anyone still shooting their 1919 using the 54R conversion? I haven't seen anyone talking about it and thought I'd see if anyone is still shooting 54R in their 1919.

the cost is so high now, its cheaper for most to use 308. unless you are like some of us and stacked 54 so deep you have no interest in the 308 parts.

I have 54r conversion I am thinking of putting up for sale. I just don't use it like I thought I would. I have the ammo, but I seem to shoot other stuff. It is a good set up, but I seem to shoot the Vickers and 30 -06 guns more right now.

I love my 54R conversion from Troy at BarrelXchange. I run my 1919 all the time! But you do have to have the ammo as 54R is about the same price as cheap .308.

Here's an update.

I still make them and have new barrels in .311 bore available.
The 54R conversions are $450 (with parts trade in)for adjustable headspace and
$650 (with parts trade in ) for fixed headspace (similar to a vickers). Add what you value the parts and wear n tear.

The cheap(er) to shoot conversion is the 7.62x39 conversion for the 1919A4.
I am ramping up to produce about 30-40 conversions in 7.62x39. I'll post elseware with details.

Still using my 54R conversion which includes 14" barrels. Thanks Troy!
I bought a ton of the ammo when it was really cheap and still have around 4,000 rounds left.

barrelxchange, thanks for posting, I am interested in finding out more about the 7.62x39 set up, what links does this set up use ? and how well does it work as compared to 308 ? Thanks in advance. Jim.

I have a fixed headspace Barrel xchange 54R setup -actually a few of them. 54R is all I shoot in my 1919. I bought 50,000 rnds of it several years ago and am down to maybe 15,000 left. Bought at 20 cents /rnd

I now do consider switching back to 308 but prob won’t until I finish eating all my 54R.

The 54R conversion has been wonderful for me over the years! Thanks Troy !

I would say switch back now ...Good surplus 54 is getting harder to find and will soon be worth more then 308.

I did the same with 8MM ....Bought ton's and shot the 1919's only in 8mm...Then when it dried up I switched back to 308...I reload 308 and 30-06...Still have a bunch of Romy 8mm that is worth far more then any 308 on the market...I use it for trade fodder for cal's I overlooked.
