For the simplist way to headspace follow method two of the headspace tutorial http://www.1919a4.com/tutorials/tutorial-headspacing.php, slide HS2-A and read this sticky for some additional info on why you toss the headspace gage unless you're shooting 30-06 with a 30-06 bolt and not an Izzy one http://www.1919a4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=818. This method is the field method and takes all of 15 seconds to perform.
Do yourself a favor and grind the headspace spring to look more like the GI one so you can headspace it in the gun.
