I don't often have a question about ammo boxes but I have answered a few. My question is has anybody seen a .50 cal ammo box marked "M2A2". Most of us are familiar with the M2A1 post war .50 cal box:

Box Ammunition Caliber .50 M2A1 NSN 8140-00-960-1699, drawing: 7553296.

Supposedly there is a new one with the same dimensions known as:

Box Ammunition M2A2, NSN 8140-01-604-5849 drawing: 13032542.

This one apparently was introduced a couple years ago. Sources say reference to the M2A1 for solicitation requests should
be replaced by M2A2. I have gone on line and have found no information on it. I know they changed the lid design years ago but the boxes of that type I have seen are still marked M2A1.

To answer my own question. An online friend had managed to get ahold of the drawing for the M2A2 box. It appears that most of the parts are the same as the M2A1 except the latch, which had a raw edge on the top where it engages the hasp (the part welded to the box) is now rolled over. There were much more major changes to the lid made probably over thirty years ago that did not result in a change of name. It looks like because of this minor change the military finally got around to changing it.
