A lot of folks can't understand how we came to have an oil shortage here in our country.

Well, there's a very simple answer.

Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.

The reason for that is purely geographical.

Our OIL is located in:

ALASKA
California
Coastal Florida
Coastal Louisiana
Wyoming
Colorado
Kansas
Oklahoma
Pennsylvania
and
Texas

Our dipsticks are located in DC.

I sometimes wonder if the reason our Govt doesnt tap into our oil supply is for possible future war reasons. Maybe they want it on tap if WW III or the equivalent breaks out and we cant get oil from anywhere else. We wouldnt last long if we couldnt fuel our military equipment.... Just a thought.

We have a vast amount of oil. The US (politicians) want to use other countries oil up so we will have ours as a last resort and can charge what we want to the countries who need it. I have never seen our economy this way in my lifetime and never thought it would be like this. BTW we put the dip sticks in DC and we can remove them too!! The next election pick someone else!!!

It's probably for the same reason that China is buying up everyone else's resources before tapping their own. Oil is finite, and it's being used up faster and faster nowadays. China is just starting to explode into a fully industrial society and they and India are putting millions more cars on their roads now. The price of foreign oil will only go up, and it won't be long before we're being out-competed for it. So we're grabbing it while we can, and saving our own reserves for when we can no longer buy foreign oil. But even that will be sucked dry at some point.

When was the last proven reserve found in the US since it is so vast? We have oil in shale etc but not like the saudis do.
