I know there are a few on the market. Just wondering if anyone doing them themselves. Personally I'm doing a set for my rig. Rear is completed working on front. If interested will post pics when finished

I would be interested in seeing your sights. I was looking for a set, the Madsen? set looked to large for the 1919a4. Right now I'm searching seamless tubing at work to try and make something up. Any help with pictures would be a great help. I was told that the spider sight went on the rear of the gun when used on aircraft and on the front when used on the ground, is that correct?

On my 1928's AA sights the spider goes to the front only. They used the sights that you already have for ground use. The madsen AA sights are about the right size for the 1919 the rings on the spider sight were used to lead the target so they had to be big.

AA sights

I am patterning my set from an AN-M2, sort of. I found some pics that show several different options. True AN-M2 sights either clamped to top cover or bolted to top plate and the front clamped around the barrel shroud, from the pics that I found. I am borrowing the basic mounting design from an unknown maker that I found on the bmgparts.com sight.

My rear set utilizes the mounting pad on the left rear. It is also windage adjustable. The front will be a split ring with an adjustable post for elevation. Right now it is pieces. Should begin the welding process soon. will work on pics

Trying more

This is the sight in its finished form. I did fabricate new screw. It has not yet been parked. This assembly is 100% scratch built. Spider assembly is 10 seperate pieces. Base assembly is 5 including windage screws.

When front is done will post as well.

The sight you are patterning from is made by Hard-Core Mfg. I have a set and they are fantastic. Rick has sold quite a few of those. The quality is absolutely top notch. http://www.hard-coremfg.com/index.htm

If the set up you are referring to was for the MG42 spider quadrant, then it was an adapter/post set that I made some years back. Didn't make anymore since they were a bit too "Pricey" for the market at $75.00, but you might find a set used somewhere.

Rear is windage only Front will be elevation. Thought about doing rear with both but would have been really busy. The example I am working from appears to have the ajustments I am working with. The original rear did not have the knobs. I believe that it used screws that were loosened then retightened after adjustment was made. Hope it helps

Belt fed Frog

Thanks for thumbs up. As I do not have more than one BMG I don't see the need for more than the one I have. As for making more.....that would depend. Material cost on this set was next to nothing. Machine time is the problem. Manuel lathes and milling machines. There may be options however.....

Excellent Workmanship!

Those AA sights look Great!! I have no idea what some of the originals were, I live a short drive from the Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum, I think I'll go over tomorrow and look at the AA sights on some of the 1919s the have in some of the airplanes, they may be reproductions one of you guys built?, could be originals. Gotta go look!

If you find something take the pics. I would be interested in seeing what there is. I have also done a spade grip set. When front sight is finished I'll put all the parts together and post pics if interested. I configure and store as the standard A4 when transporting and not in use. It is easier to put in the safe that way. The Spades take up a lot of room.

I agree and I have the MG42 sight just sitting here
waiting for a base

also have one from a M-60

If someone made a base for that so it could go where the
front sight is now that would work too
