I have been curious if the ohio ord. tripods are ground mounts or what.... i know in shotgun news they look like you could stand up and shoot them but i dont know and i do know they have one heck of a price on them 995-1200.00 so i was wondering if anyone knew anything about them and does anyone have a tripod out there that they consider to be the best 1919a4 tripod out there for the best price?

those are the vicker tripods, and yes they are a ground mount......but unless you are a midget, you won't be able to stand and shoot behind it, they sit a little low for that, you can sit behind it and shoot...... the only tripod you will be able to stand and shoot from is the MG42AA tripod.

as for best tripod out there.........that is impossible to say, all have their + and -. a lot of folks will probably go with the M2/M122 as they are more "correct" for the gun, there are also repos of those that are decently priced....my advice would be get one that appeals to you and your wallet
Check the add [email protected] has his up for sale for $100, he can answer your questions.....

If you are talking about a 1917A1 Tripod, it is a good tripod to shoot from, you don't have to lie down behind it....his is very nice too....

You can sit behind them on a short stool, they are about the same height as my 1928 Colt Tripod in this pic

Here is a pic of my 7 yr old behind it

Here is a video of me shooting off the stool, I am 6'2" tall

Cool picture, those legs look like they are at the lowest setting, they sit a lot higher if you want them to.

No the 1917a1 tripods they sell have not been cut. The cheaper ones dont have as much brass on them as the more expensive ones, but they are all in good shape. I bought an expensive one and polished the brass. Park on cradle was superb so I didi not touch it. Stripped the legs with a chemical stripper and applied 4 coats of durakote in wwii od green. Looks better than any I have seen in a museum. I also have on of the colt m35 tripods I bought from them. It is steady as a rock and a real quality item, not to mention a rare bird. Both of these were made for the 1917 type gun and all the m35's were pre war. The craftsmanship and amount of workmanship that went into these tripods is probably much more than saginaw put into any 1919 they made. Short of bolting it down, these are some of the most stable platforms you can fire a 1919 from. They are to low to stand up and shoot. Another great choice that is around the $600 mark is a vickers tripod.
Good Luck.
I had mine delivered today

It's well worth the money. I bought the handpicked one. It's very very heavy and has enough grease to lube a few cars! In fact it looks like it hasn't seen the light of day since 1945. I know that when I shoot from it it will barely move. I can also use my beach chair and I won't have to lay down or slouch over to shoot my 1919A4. Not to say I don't love my M2 tripod but it will be more comfortable. Anyway I hope you decide to get one before they run out. I have seen them go for $2000 on Gunsamerica so OOW has a great deal.

Hi Scott
I couldn't help notice a spray bottle hanging off the tripod. Could you tell me what is in it? Thanks.
Sir Plus Was Offering a 1917A1 tripod Recently

Check the board, he posted one for sale just a couple of days ago.
Mine is still for sale. $1000.00 is a decent price guys.
Dan
I've seen Dan's, Hell, I shot a 250rnd belt through his shorty off of it (with a crankfire...fun,fun,fun!)...its an excellent one, lots of brass...If I didn't pick up a beautiful, mint M122 off of him, and I knew he was going to sell this one, I would've bought it!
That's a good deal Dan

csa4ever......That is a great price. I would think seriously about purchasing it from Dan. I don't think you would regret it.
i've went sorta on a spending spree with an allied armament 1919 and linker and links, ammo all in one week gets sorta expensive so as of now i dont have the money to buy a tripod i still want to get a crankfire device and a tripod but it will have to wait a few weeks. If i had the money dan id buy it today but i dont i appreciate the knowledge that ppl put in this website greatly
Get a MAG 58 tripod, can lay it down like a M2 or sit in a chair or stand up and shoot, its leg extends so you can adjust it to what ever kind of shooting youl like.
Sorry Dan, got you confused

I know Dan is an honest dealer and regret not seeing his offer before buying one.

My pics are down (hunt101 sucks) so I don't know which bottle is hanging on it, It's either Moblil 5w-30 Full Synthetic for lubing the action or WD-40 for cooling the barrel.
