I was curious if anyone has any firsthand experience with the 7.62x39 1919 conversion that Troy at barrel Xchange has for sale?

Looking at the current price of ammo, what I have stocked up, and the amount I am considering buying, using 7.62x39 in lieu of 30-06 would pretty much pay for the conversion and still save some money.

Yeah, I know the gun won't have the 'oomph' of 30-06, but I seriously doubt most of the junk in the pit I am shooting at would know the difference. ;)

Yes and the junk in the pit will be just as dead! The other positive is that the links are incredibly easy to load. I can actually get the Mrs. to load some once in a while.
Go for it you won't be sorry.

I've got of those conversions, and it works great. Very reliable, and cheaper to shoot. My wife complained that it was loud, so that's a good sign...
I still have to get some of the new links to try.

Well dang, I figured people would say 'naw, neat idea but...' Great news that it works so well! I already havea bunch of 7.62x39 stocked up and with the shipping costs of 30-06 from CMP after 3000 rounds it makes sense to just go the 7.62x39 route.

My only concern was the links, and I'll stock up on those. I actually had the crazy idea that maybe I could get some fabric belts sewn up for it- might take some experimentation to get a belt that worked 100%, but that is the kind of thing I find fun to do in my spare time. :)

Really the only 'down' side is that the 30-06 brass is realoable, while steel cased wolf 7.62 is not. But I don't have a relaoding setup, so that is sort of a moot point anyhow.

Anyhow, just thinking out loud. If anyone else wants to chime in, please feel free to.

Conversion is $400 and comes with 100 of the nylon links. Additional links are $20/100 or $180/1000

The Nylon links work very well, are durable and reusable

You can modify 30-06 links to work and I have a free info sheet, but it is very labor intensive.
