How exactly do you convert a bren tripod to fit a 1919?
I bought an adapter made by someone on this board. Basically a long bracket that mounts to the tripod, and the gun mounts to the adapter. It also has a side bracket that holds the ammo can. The Bren tripod is a comfortable one to use - but its primary drawback is that the tripod plus adapter is heavy. But then so are the gun, full ammo cans, etc.

Gents, believe it or not, I found one close by, I went to look at guns for sale; he also had two tripods. One he gave me as it was a home made for an MG 15 I had bought from him several years ago, OK shooter & well made but a bit long in the leg. He also has a really nice Bren with what looks like a unit marking '3/IL7'.

Someone above mentioned adapter for 1919, I have my 1919 on an adapter to Bren tripod. Even though I have the buttstock on, I prefer the 'bucket sitting' mode. I like the rear mounting to be unhooked giving a shouldered gun much more flexibility rather than fumbling with the T & E.

I dont like the MG 3/42 mount where you do not have 'hands on' the gun, I do have my ANM 2 on one, but it is a 'hands on' adaptation. Barry made it adjustable so it will take the 1919 also. A first time MG 42 shooter 'belly down' comes away with an experience that will make most all others pale by comparison.
