With all this talk about what is going on in the SC , defining gun ownership and what a Militia is , It seems some states are actually looking into what it takes to form a militia.
With the Economy about to head into a land slide , Catastrophes like Katrina ,and the recent floods ,States with strapped budgets are wondering if a Militia may actually be useful.
As one Governor said ,it is an excellent way to make sure firearms are in the hands of those we want them to be ,and if you cant beat them ,see if they will join you.
With some areas where Gangs are nearly an Army ,and LE having its hands tied and short handed ,A Governor would love to know he could call on a massive well armed Army that would be more than willing to set things right.
In Katrina we saw how ineffective the National Guard can be ,and LE didn't know with its right hand what the left hand was doing.
Unlike in the 90s, the word ,Militia ,is starting to look like not such a bad thing .
In this report no names were mentioned ,only that more people are hopeing the SC ,rules for the 2nd Amendment ,than just gun owners.

It only makes sense ,In Katrina the NG was almost part of the problem, they actually stole a lot of the stuff going there. One of the 4 Governors saying this said if it had happened in his state ,he would have called out his Militia ,told them to secure several Grocery stores ,told the store to give him their inventory list so he could repay them afterwords ,and his militia would be less likely to be in Gangs. A militia is the Governor's Army ,cheap, effective every time it has been used ,and with Washington getting more and more out of touch , the use of them is becoming more attractive.
In some cases the Militia is better trained than the Guard.
Libs may have screwed up on this one ,now people who once had no idea ,are finding out exactly what the 2nd Amendment means, and why it is there.

The militia is alive and well, would be nice if governor approves it, shuts the anti's up once and for all.

Tell me about it, where do you think local SWAT came when they needed ammo for those (DRMO) M-14s? State said "NO FUNDING for ammo"! That's right, the trainers came to visit me, traded 5.56 for half of the load, the other half I donated.

Local 200-400 yd rifle ranges wanted $200/yr for membership, I have a key to county's remote/private range now, can take several people at a time for at least the next 4 yrs-unlimited visits, definately got my money's worth on that donation. ;)

Fox is saying that the Governors of 42 States are pissed because they do not control the National Guard anymore ,and that the NG is called a Militia.
It is not any longer ,it is part of the Army ,just look at the uniform.
The old question about States rights is rearing its head again.
A Governor wants to be able to run his State ,and not have Washington telling him how to do it.
In the Floods in Missouri ,it took 3 days for Guard troops to even show up ! LE was inundated by that time.
Small Militia groups were on patrol already to prevent looting ,Bush was pissed.

I don't give a flying SH*T if Pres doesn't like the fact we're better off taking care of our own, wait 'til we have Martial Law, then you'll see who's there to help and who's there to take everything you own. Katrina anyone?

Some NG units are great folk, I thank them for their service, others aren't worth a sh*t, too busy (personal intrests) to take care of citizens when they need help. Phalanx is right, when governors lost the edge, high-percentage of units have went to crap.

Ask the rural locals about a blizzard we had in 1992, roofs caving in and several people seriously injured, all EMS/LE and choppers grounded and hundreds of pine trees blocking all rural roads, they call in NG for assistance in rescue OP. Thanks to hard-working citizens, 2 hrs later injured delivered to hospital via private 4x4s, NG nowhere to be found, guess where they were spotted? Up in the mountains playing in the snow, locals video taped it. When NG did arrive to this remote community, (roads cleared by citizens now) 3 hrs too late, a bunch of HEAVILY-ARMED locals met them and told them to get the hell outta there, which they wasted no time in getting to local fast food joint for fresh coffee.

Frank,

Just wait 'til you visit next month, you will meet many of my friends, and you'll see where we go to have fun. New LE have heard about my cannon, but haven't actually heard it yet, been known to cause 911 calls from a mile away, people think a meth lab blew up. :D

Calling the NG a Militia is one of those ploys, used to rid you of your right to bear arms.
The Gun Grabbers are quick to point out the 2nd says ,a well regulated Militia.
The Guard is in some cases a good organization , But they at this point are not what the 2nd is referring to.
Libs toss the word Militia around to suite themselves.
In the 90s it was a cuss word ,in Iraq it refers to some insurgents ,but it is only a word with several meanings.
Fred Thompson once said the word Militia is like the word Army , you had the German Army in WW2 ,then the American Army ,its all in how it is used.
But in some places the Militia's are better trained ,equipped ,and have better leaders than the NG.
And to the members of the Militia it isn't just a part time job ,it is a dedication to serve with very little positive notice by the media.
Fear a Government that fears you.

Sign me up! I'm too old for hand-to-hand or close quarters, but I can clean guns, load magazines, cook and drive a truck:).

I gotta tell ya's... If Illinois asked for "Militia" volunteers, I'd laugh my ass off! After all the corruption in the Governor's Mansion and in the Capitol building, I think they'd find that the 'able-bodied' would overtake Springfield FIRST, then do things right.

I'd probably have to stand my own ground and defend my family from around the house with my neighbor. (It's nice to have local LE next door!) Kinda funny, though... he came to me about 6 months ago and asked me to "go over" his Glock, because he'd never been able to break it down so he could clean it! He's got some learning to do!
