Once the latch is moved out of the way the plate should slide relatively easily. Do you have trouble sliding it into position? Or only when you remove it? If it simply doesn't slide well, it might be that the tongue or groove need to be cleaned up a bit. Might also be that the groove wasn't cut quite wide enough. If you do clean up the groove, be careful you don't overdo it - you definitely don't want to weaken the part that keeps the back plate from slapping you in the face when you shoot the gun.

I was pulling as hard as I could and it would not move at all. I ended up asking my dad for help, he pried it up at the bottom groove with a screw driver while I held the latch foward. When I went to put it back on it went in fine 3/4 of the way then I had to use a hammer to make it go the rest of the way. I'm pretty sure that I shouldn't have to use a hammer to put it back together  but I'm still new to these things.

This is one of the guns that Allied was dumping on Gunbroker. I am beginning to question if all of the guns that they are dumping are having problems.

Another user that bought one posted on this site that they were having problems with slam fires and full auto bursts.

FastM,

I see your farly new here, so you probibly never seen all the old posts about haveing a Rubber Hammer in your Range Box :D Haveing a tight back plate might be a pain, but its way better than some of the other problems we've seen over the years....Lou

What OBS said,, if you have to do any mods to get the backplate on,, make them to the backplate, not the RHSP. One of my 1919's had to be relieved and it was the backplate that got cleaned up.
Better to be too tight than too loose. If it moves at all, it will eventually wear the groove and can cause failure.

Mine was a bit tight too on my first build. I looked closely at the blue prints and saw that the back of the side plate end has a few radius. These were not done on any of the sideplates I have purchased.
I made my RSP fit the back plate. The reasoning here was the back plate was fine something else must be wrong. Once I knocked off the sharp edges as shown on the prints (available here http://1919a4.com/blueprints/Browning1919A4Blueprint.pdf) it slid right on. Also by not modifying the back plate all my back plates fit all my other guns. As posted above you don't want it loose but a rubber mallet should not be necessary to assemble/disassemble the gun. Save it to smash your top cover back in place if you have a kaboom.
