I just built my first 1919A4 and it is set up for .30-06. I am completely new at this. The barrel lock spring in my kit is the square notch israeli one and it is not engaging on the barrel (is it suppossed to ride on the notches or on the threads, it doesn't quite touch either.) I think that it is giving me head space problems when I shoot it by letting the barrel turn. The first 30 rounds shot fine then it started not eject the links, feed reliably or reset the trigger. The tip of the spring is not broken, so I don't know why it won't hold in place. Where can I get a GI spring or should I try to modify this one? Am I barking up the wrong tree could there be another problem? Any help appreciated.

Quick fix

You can grind the square portion of the tip of the IZZY lock spring to a point it will serve the purpose. The real thing is a better solution. Somewhere on this site I saw pictures of the process, might have been a post, not a tutorial.

Once you get your headspace set prick punch the barrel just ahead of the correct notch and the barrel extension. That way you can always visually check to see that nothing has moved each time you shoot.

Here is the diagram that one of the members here did. I think it might have been kbailey3, but not sure. It shows the mods perfectly. While I still recommend the USGI spring, this will get the job done.
