After shooting about 500 rounds through a gun on a new 30.06 barrel, the barrel end where it goes into the booster looks pitted. Originaly it was smooth. I have cleaned it after each use, the ammo was corrosive so thats why I always cleaned it and since I know it will be asked, yes I do know how to clean for corrisive ammo. Is this normal? The barrel looks great inside!

Many thanks!

How are you cleaning it? Hot soap and water? or bore cleaner? Both?

Bore cleaner will not kill the corrosive salts,

Soapy water is the way to go. then go back over it with the bore cleaner and lots of oil.

Barrel cleaning

The muzzle always picks up carbon fouling, I clean it with a carding brush that you use to clean files. That gets the worst off, then finish with one of those foam sanding pads. Don't forget to clean the inside of the booster, I made a cleaning tool that does the job without removing the booster.

Get a 3/4 inch wire brush with a 1/4 inch shaft cut some 1/4-20 threads on the shaft and on one end of a 4 foot longX1/4 inch rod connect them with a coupling nut.

Pull the back plate and internals, insert the brush down the the casing thry the trunion down to the inside of the booster put a drill on the end apply a little Kroil or whatever you use and it's clean in a minute or so. The military had a carbon removing fluid called P-C 111 I have an idea that it might have been trichorolethane a really nasty solvent.
