Bee movie!

I have 4 girls under 10 years old, I don't think a day has gone by where i haven't walked through the living room and this stupid thing wasn't playing, at first I didn't care but his voice become very annoying very fast, not to mention the fact of just how stupid it was, but so much of kids entertainment is now days, we have to be very careful of the stuff they watch. besides I'm still fighting the bee hive in my attic so I'm not real fond of bees right now!

Beez in your attic

Spring is the time of bee swarming. A simple application of moth balls in your attic will 'encourage" them to move on without harming them... Yes, I have bees!! Cordially, Overbore

Be careful with the mothballs in your attic. There are a lot of posts online about people who did that and their whole house stank like mothballs. Its almost impossible to get that stink out without ripping out all the insulation. Google mothballs attic and see all the wonderful posts from people who are sorry they used them.

Don't do it!

I can't stand the smell of mothballs, that was one mistake I'll never make again, we had skunks trying to dig under foundation of house and really tearing up the landscaping, neighbor says put out mothballs, skunks went away and months later you could smell the damn mothballs all through the house.

As much as I hate skunks, I'd take them over that any day. ;)

I haven't had to repel bees yet, but I've had to repel or deter other animals. The mothball recommendation comes up now and again, but I haven't had success with it.

Pack rats are very common where we live. I've got a running battle with them in the garage. If I make the mistake of leaving anything loose on the work bench, it will vanish in the night, only to turn up again months later when I clean out a pack rat nest from some hideaway in the garage. And for some reason they love my wife's pick-up truck. During the spring and summer they regularly try to build nests on top of her engine block, and equally regularly chew the wires off the distributer. Pisses her off big time.

Anyway, several people suggested mothballs as good repellants, so we tried it. What we discovered was that the damn packrats would just carry the mothballs back to the nests. Probably helped them control fleas or whatever, but it sure didn't scare the rats away.

I've heard of mothballs being recommended for keeping dogs and cats out of gardens, but I've also heard stories of dogs digging up the mothballs and cats completely ignoring them. I think the mothball manufacturers must have an advertising agency that promotes goofy uses of mothballs.

My favorite repellant story, though, involves a wolf and some hot sauce. I had a couple wolves, and tried to plant some trees in their yard. But the trees (in 5 gallon pots) would get chewed down and dug up as fas as I could plant them. Someone suggested Louisiana Hot Sauce as a cre for the problem. Sounded good to me, so I got some hot sauce, diluted it a little and put it in a spray bottle, and planted the next tree. As soon as the tree was in the ground I soaked it with hot sauce. Meanwhile, the male wolf walked up and watched the entire process. When I stepped back, he went up and sniffed the sauce-soaked tree - and licked it a couple times. Then he walked over to me, sniffed the spray bottle - and started begging for it. Might as well have doused the tree in salad dressing as far as he was concerned. I gave up on the tree planting - figured there were enough trees there anyway.

bees

I tried squirting water at the hole, shooting bug spray into at night and running like crazy, it's in a second story attic so it's hard to tell how far back the hive is, so last week my wife bought some bug bombs, the attic access isn't too far away from where their hole is so I waited to it got cool at night and open the cover, and got a face full of blown insulation, needless to say I wasn't too happy, so I pushed a clearing just inside the opening and lit off a bomb, thousands of dead bees littered the ground in the morning, but after a couple days they seemed to be getting active again, so I hit them again, same thing so one last time, I've been watching them for a couple of days now and I think the activity has just about ceased, I haven't been chased across the yard for a day or so, so I think I may finally gotten the queen, I didn't want to kill them but none of the bee keepers wanted to try and the bee people at texas A&M said people are too afraid of all the deseases going around, oh well I tried.

I don't understand why one'd wanta' discourage bees -- I encourage these beneficial insects all around our house. And why'd yu' wanta' smell moth balls for, anyway -- whata' ya' do, hold them up by their ankles?

Carry On!

bees

I'd be happy to share the yard with the bees but for some reason they aren't willing to share with me, any time I try to do some thing out in the yard I get dive bombed by them, my wife and kids can all play out side with out problems, but not me, so they have to go!

FWIWI've had problems with mice getting into my jeep. At one point they took up residence in the clutch bell housing. Between the nesting material, piss and dead babies I soon needed a new clutch. Literally blew apart all the fibers on the disc. I've been hanging little bags made of cheesecloth all over it filled with ARGO moth balls when I store it.Yea that whole end of the barn stinks, but no meeces. Been doing it for six or seven years now. The jeep stops stinking of moth balls in a day or twoand starts smelling like an old jeep again when I take it out of storage.

There actually have been cases where a roof caved in due to the weight
of the hive.Damn sure wouldn't want to home for that!
I have seen a cabin in Washington state that had what must have been a big hive.
The unpainted t-1-11 siding was darkly discolored over about a 8' wide x9' high
area.
Sounded a bit like a BIG transformer in the wall.Yikes!
