I've just dissassembled my semi auto 1919A4 for the first time (just received it from Allied Armament) to get most of the shipping oil wiped off. I will admit to all here that I'm not all that familiar with the Browning series of beltfeds. I'm supposed to go fire the thing tomorrow, and getting the barrel, extension and trigger part installed was no problem, but I can only slide the bolt in up to where the cocking handle goes into it's hole through the right side plate. Looking in from the top cover, it seems like the bolt is hitting the barrel extension at just below the firing pin hole. It's like it's not high enough in the receiver, but there's no space left at the top. I can put the bolt all the way in if I don't install the trigger part, just the barrel assembly/extension. The copy of the FM that comes with the gun says instillation of parts is the reverse of dissassembly, but I'm totally lost.
Any and all help or advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
Welcome to the world of browning beltfed guns. I had the same problem you had the first time I took mine down several years ago. You have got to get the whole package (barrel, barrel extension, and lockframe) in the receiver as one unit. I would say that you have let the barrel extension and lockframe seperate and the breech lock is up limiting the bolt from going in. Take the whole unit (all 3 pieces) out and reassemble and the bolt should slide right in all the way up to the handle hole and up to closed battery. I hope this helps.....Josh:D

Well, they say even a blind pig finds an acorn occasionally.
I was able to get the bolt in, but I don't know if it's the correct way. I pushed the barrel back from the bearing(?) at the end of the barrel until it locked, and the bolt just slide right in. I installed the cocking handle, backplate, turned the drive spring back it's quarter turn and cycled the bolt several times. The trigger went "click" after every cycle. Was this the right way to do it, or did I just get lucky?
Thanks for all those quick replies. Gregolver, the link you sent is now in my "Favorites", cause I need all the help I can get.

Thanks again,
Brian

Sounds like you got it. As Joshgar8 pointed out, if the lock frame and barrel extension assemblies are not in the correct relationship, the breech lock will be in the up position and there is no way to get the bolt in. What you did by pushing on the muzzle end was move the barrel extension rearward and locking it in the lock frame, allowing the breech lock to drop out of the way. You can install those two assemblies to the point where the lock frame's disassembly pin (trigger pivot) locks in to the right side plate, before adding the bolt. But the barrel extension must still be locked in to the lock frame. What you had was the barrel extension slipping forward into battery, raising the breech lock. That is good thing with the bolt in place, but not when the blot is still outside, as you have discovered. ;)
