While doing my tear down before squaring and drilling... With the removal of my booster the front barrel bearing and lock ring came off in one unit is this an issue do these items need to be disassembled. They are izzy units. Is the front barrel bearing and booster one unit?

Some boosters are one piece and some are two piece (not counting the lock rings). The two piece has the orifice plate screwed into the end of the bearing with a lock ring...the one-piece is the bearing and orifice all in one. Both types require a lock ring where they screw into the barrel shroud. If your lock ring is staked in place then leave it as is...if it just slips off then remove it before glass beading.

I looked...

Yeah I looked on the inside it looks like it would be the one piece then Lobo because I don't see a break between where the bearing starts on the inside and the booster... Now when you talk about the orifice on the end which is what drives the barrel rearward it has a screw in orifice that is about a little bigger than a nickel that sized the booster down to .308 specs. Have you ever seen anything like that before... I'll try to post a picture tomorrow. I think you answered my question with a question, but I'll still post the pic tomorrow. Thanks for your time Lobo

Yep I have the top one the one piece all right. what puzzles me is the orifice in the end its almost like they used a thread insert to make the orifice smaller for the .308

I have a couple of these type Boosters with the removeable front. I figured they were made to make the cleaning easier, or to be able to change the bore diameter so you could shoot .308, 8mm, or .30-06. The Israelis used all three calibers.

There is a wrench that fits this slot too.

Yeah I figured they may have done something like that seems like it would be real conveinent too... To bad someone doesn't make the replaceable orifices for this type of booster so you could change the caliber on the fly... Think I'll try to get mine to back out to get the spec's on it in case I want to have orifices to fit the odd six and 8mm made. Are the odd six and 8mm the same? I figured someone else had one of these out there. Thanks Abwehr

You'll spend more on having an orifice made than just spending $20 for a 30-06 booster...which works on 8mm...please read the converting tutorial on the home page.

Just the point that it would be neat to be able to just swap out the orifice though... Yeah read the tutorial like well... Too many times my head hurts... Since were on that tact though did they make flash hiders for the .308 if not I think I'll pick one up in odd six then I can do both then with the exception of getting the other parts I would need for the conversion

I've never seen the screw in orifice...when you get yours out how about post a pic.

I don't know of an M6 flash hider for 308, but many guys run the M6 as is on 308 and it works...others bushing them down.

Update: Soaked it in Break free. It spun right around and found out its not threaded must have been riveted in kind of like a tarp grommet type fashion... So I guess its not threaded bummer that would have been cool though...
