Well, the weekend is finally approaching for me to finally test out my first build, and the ONLY thing I have left to do is open up my .308 booster so I can shoot 8mm. Now I searched old posts and found that it should be anywhere from .680 (from one post) to .716 (from another post). Thats all fine and dandy, cept I have no way to do it! I waited to do the booster last, and I probably should have just bought one already opened up for .30-06, but I have till thursday night to get this done before I go up north! So my questions are....

- Can I just use my .308 booster for a few shots (like 10 or so). To see if its working, or is that a bad idea?

- Can I use a drill bit to open up the hole, or is the material too hard, or should I just have a machine shop machine it out?

I called a machine shop here but they couldn't promise they'd get to it before thursday.....hence the reason I need some input!!!! Thanks in advance.....

You can do a "field expedient" fix... drill a couple of 3/16" holes in the face of your booster and make a flame thrower booster!

You'll be find to pull off a few shots, just don't go nuts. I'd think 10 shots wouldn't hurt the gun, but also try with no booster! never know, but it MIGHT just work!

Hey! Thanks! I will send you an email! Why did you sell the 1919? Just curious...

Anyone else know if I can use the .308 booster temporarily?

Yes, it will be just fine. All that you are dealing with here is a faster cyclic rate. In theory, that means a little extra pounding on the buffer and back plate. The gun is not going to care unless you are shooting thousands of rounds through it.

Besides, if a lightweight ANM2 aircraft Browning can handle 1200 round per minute for as long as they do, then you have nothing to fear with a full size 1919. You won't be close to that rate.
