ALHAMBRA - Six felony charges, including possession of an assault weapon, were dismissed today against a former East Los Angeles College student body president.
The charges against Matthew Corwin were dismissed by Alhambra Superior Court Judge Carlos Uranga at the prosecution's request, said Deputy District Attorney Donna Hollingsworth.
A civil compromise was reached on three of the charges, according to the prosecutor.
Defense attorney Chuck Michel described his 24-year-old client as an "A student" with a "very distinguished military career" who has been reactivated with the U.S. Army.
"It's been a tremendous emotional burden on him," Michel said of the charges against Corwin. " I think the D.A.'s office deserves credit for taking a hard look at this case and realizing what it was and it wasn't."
The charges - which stemmed from Corwin's alleged possession of assault weapons and other weapons at his Monterey Park home - were filed April 30.
Six other charges that were initially filed against Corwin involving a replica Browning machine gun were dismissed May 14 after authorities determined it was not an assault weapon and is not illegal. - From staff reports
Yea, either put open talk back on the main page, or please consider creating a new category. Stuff like this should be front page news!ps. this really should be on the front page
It was Chuck Michel who brought to the DA's attention the fact that the 1919s were 100% CA legal, which is why those charges got dropped early on. Also, since some of the remaining charges involved the Off List AR and AK lowers, which has been a sore point for the DOJ, I think the fact that AG Moonbeam here was forced to haul his own Bureau of Firearms back into their cages over that issue was one thing that finally pushed this case to a close. They were operating on illegal "Underground Regulations" and have been smacked down hard for it. The Corwin case was one of many based on such overreaching. Rumor is that the CA DOJ's Bureau of Firearms has some more smack coming their way.For the lazy folk who dont like clicking links lol
Wow, credit for the DA's office eh? for taking HOW MANY months just looking for a way to F this cat over? wow how nice of em to drop a case involving LEGAL POSSESSION OF LEGAL FIREARMS. I wonder if the DA googled 1919a4 and looked on here to find out their legal and print out the approval letters![]()
Hell, how many of us CA boys have the letter from bill lockyer saying the 1919a4 semi auto is legal here? whap bam boom case closed.
I guess on the bright side all this mess is over, now who can be sued![]()

No, Matt Corwin is a case here in L.A. Part of the case initially involved charges of possession and selling of machine guns, based on the fact that he helped organize a group buy of semi 1919s from Allied Armament.is this MIDNX to us here??? if so great for him...
and if not who is this and what happened to Midnx???
I don't think there will be any lawsuit in this case. The defendant reached a compromise with the prosecution to accept an infraction charge and allow his three "assault weapons" to be destroyed. He could have fought it out because it is said the rifles were legally configured, but it would have meant more legal exposure and costs above those already incurred and well beyond the price of the weapons involved. Unfortunately while his problems are now over no offical verdict or legal decision was reached on the legallity of his OLLs.Great news!I hope ALL the people involved in this witch hunt file a class-action lawsuit against Kali, millions of dollars in damages might teach those primates a lesson.

Wait, so even though his 1919's were completely legal, the DA pushed for a deal which included destruction of the rifles?????I don't think there will be any lawsuit in this case. No, the 1919 charges were dropped really early on. Those were not confiscated. He had 3 AR's or AK's that were CA neutered. Those were what were confiscated.Wait, so even though his 1919's were completely legal, the DA pushed for a deal which included destruction of the rifles?????![]()
That is so jacked up. I used to travel to and from Beale AFB with frequency, but I could never live in CA again. It's too ridiculous. I'm glad for this kid, and at the same time, disgusted with the CA government for having allowed this to happen. No, the 1919 charges were dropped really early on. Those were not confiscated. It takes a while to explain, but basically us in the PRK found a way to legally own "assault weapons" so long as they don't contain "evil features." Our CA DOJ doesn't see it that way though.
