Windex has ammonia in it ....
Windex USED TO have ammonia. A lot of window cleaners have now shifted over to alcohol and no longer contain ammonia. Actually, salts are removed by dissolving them in water - there is no way to neutralize salts short of a powerful chemical reaction, and it's exactly that kind of reaction that destroys barrels. Ammonia based cleaners are very effective at loosening dirt, but it was the water in them that dissolved the salts and made it possible to remove them.
