A while back I posted that I was going to try a large quanity buy of the Greek 30.06 ammo from the CMP. I was going to order about 100K rounds as I heard they offered a "Quanity discount" and a deal on shipping. So after joining a local Shooting Association that met the CMP requirements... I emailed them to place the order. They informed me that they no longer offer any discounts of any kind....AND they now have a "Ten Case Limit" per Calender Year per individual.

Sorry to hear that CMP went "South" on the ammo buy. I also live in Colorado and would have been interested in 20K rds. CMP just recently aquired 62 Million Rds. of this stuff and although they strive to distribute it among the CMP crowd, they're also capitalists. I'll bey ya that in a year or so the price will increase. I'm curious on what the price for 10 cases is including freight? I checked out the site and it appeared to be around .27 per rd. with shipping. I have talked to them within the last month and they offered a 10% discount on the ammo if the order was placed by someone in charge of a shooting club. According to your post, this would no longer be in effect?

62 million rounds won't last long. If every member of this forum bought their 10 case limit, it would be gone in a year. That doesn't take into account the Garand collectors, Springfield collectors etc.

Mucker,
Hmmmmmm......I didn't ask them that. But then you would have to have a head of a shooting club order it.
Yes.....right now the price is $00.264 per round shipped for the 480rd cases.......so you could get 4800rds for $1270.00. If you order the ammo on the Garand clips its 768rds to a case and $00.31 per round. So you could order 7680 rds for $2380.00.

The "club" discount is still in effect the last I heard, but there are some strings attached. It is for use in CMP affiliated matches and clinics. You have to account for the ammo used based on the shooters at the match which is reflected in the score cards turned into the CMP. Our club does the matches and there is pretty close enforcement on the paperwork, noterized affidavids, ect.

I'm squirtin' 30.06 out of ANM2 at 1200rds a minute....what kind of score card would they be happy with..??? I could send them a 4X8 sheet a plywood that looks like the cards at the traveling carnivals where you shoot the Red-Star out out with the pneumatic Thompsons.
Yeah....I think I'll just pay the $.31 and get what I can...while I can. I tremble at the thought of it drying completely up and have to go back to .....
....yes I'll say it...."reloading". The horror.....oh the humanity.

Just got the update:

AMMUNITION PURCHASE LIMIT: During the past 60 days we have experienced a ten-fold increase in orders for HXP .30-06 ammunition. This activity has significantly reduced our inventory. To ensure that the current inventory last another few years, effective immediately we are establishing an individual maximum purchase limit of ten cases of .30-06 HXP item # 407-Case and 10 cases of item # 415 per year.

NEW HXP .30-06 AMMUNITION PRICES: New prices are: Item #407-Case - $238 per case; item #407-Can - $60 per can; item #415 - $134 per case; item #415-CN $67 per can. New prices are effective 5 May, 2008. CMP will honor the old price for all orders already received, but not yet processed.

Sorry to hear that CMP went "South"

This statement offends me
Don't take personal offense, it's nothing against the Confederacy, just an analogy that usually means "downhill" like on a map, ya know "down south" "up north" etc. Even though I'm from "out west", I like it pretty well "down south". Next time, I'll try to be more PC.
Regards,
"MUCKER"

It comes up with that message for any of the items, for any amount, but I was not logged in. I do not have an account, but just joined the Garand Club, so I can get into some of the CMP deals, and maybe buy a Garand

Looks like the stuff in the 780rd cases is sold out already, I tried ordering some just now and it says the 2 cases I want exceeds the current inventory.

About two years ago I got into trouble,, warning about squandering ammo,, I just got home from a long week,, finally back to work,, but everywhere I go guys are working shortened hours,, everyone tring to keep their jobs,, bring home a little money to pay bills and maybe,, just maybe,, buy a little of the Greek 30 06 so they can shoot a few rounds over the weekend.
Everyone thought the SA 7.62x51 would last forever,,, well,, it didn't!! And neither will the Greek 30 06 if people are "squirting" it out at 1200 rds a minute.
The CMP stands for "Civilian MARKSMANSHIP Program"

I reload EVERY chance I get,, and when I pull the trigger on my Garand, 1911, HK 91, FAL, .38 special, 03-A3, M1A,,, and on a rare occasion, my 1919A4's,, I think back to every pull of the re-loading press,,, and I make every shot count.

Well you are the exception to the rule with a 1919A4.
I'd also like to say I would never tell someone else what to do with their own property....I leave that to liberals. If someone wants to squirt ammo at 1200rpm out of an AN-M2 or 6000rpm out of an M134 minigun I think it is great.....just as I think it is great that a guy with a MTM box full of match reloads can sit down and put them all through one ragged hole is great.

Nothing lasts forever and the only way to make it last for a long time is to not shoot it. Even then it will go bad at some point.

I agree with everyone here, but the unfortunate fact is that yes, someday soon all the cmp .30-06 will be gone....

That will be a very sad day......:( :( :(

I mean, what will we shoot out of our garands then?!!??!?!
