Wonder what would have happened if she had been in Omaha?

The gunman was killed by an armed security volunteer at the church before police arrived, authorities said.

Guard 'probably saved 100 lives'
Boyd said the security guard rushed the attacker, who didn’t get more than 6 feet inside the building, and “took him down in the hallway.”

“She probably saved 100 lives,” Boyd said of the guard. The gunman, he added, “had a lot of ammunition to do a lot of damage.”

im glad she killed him and stopped the situation...

but again its probaly a case of the sensationalized news with the: "Boyd said of the guard. The gunman, he added, “had a lot of ammunition to do a lot of damage.”

whatever. they will try to use this to limit how much ammo you can hold now..

it doesnt take a lot of ammo to do a lot of damage, it takes some planning and lots of effort, along with a lack of respect for anyone elses life.

There's been more good media coverage on these two about citizen's rights to carry than any I've ever seen. The media also said that the shooter looked like someone who "knew what he was doing, possibly with a military background". Wow.. and a poor little female CCW holder with a pistol took his rifle toting ass out....amazing...

But this whole deal may send a message to some other nut job thinking about going on a mass shooting. This lady stopped something that could have been worse than VT ,as this guy was seeking revenge . How did A little female volunteer CCW ,who wasn't even in a uniform, show more guts than the high payed security officers in that Mall with all their fancy equipment. This is the question a lot of people are asking this morning .In the single interview i have seen her do ,she attributes her skill and bravery to GOD,and she isn't talking a lot to the media.
Some in the media are trying to but their spin on things already , Saying the gun man died of a self inflicted gun shot wound .Others are saying the guard was an ex police officer and that account for her bravery and skill ,although the PD they say she worked at cant account for her time of service or employment there as of this time.

Dude, Mall security is usually Minimum wage, and has pretty much NO "Fancy Equipment" Omaha might be different, i've never been in a mall there, but eveyhwhere else i've been to a mall "Security" is all the same thing..Old men, or young kids with big hats, and not much else...not to mention in most places no Actual Authority.

My father-in-law (convicted felon and media mouthpiece for anti-gun orgs) is falsely reporting the shooter is still at large and police are looking for him, would you ever expect mass media to admit a CCW killed the perp? :(

Fox News is all I watch anymore, at least they're not afraid to get the story right.

NBC interviewed a church goer (and Vietnam Vet), ran toward shooting,,saw a male security guard behind cover, gun in holster,,he asked the guard for his weapon and guard never gave it up. Dont carry a gun if you dont have the balls to pull it. I think we will see more armed security in future,,wages have to be more for better people. There are a lot of retired military and police out there.

The Coroner is reporting that the guard did not kill the shooter. He took his own life after she took him down with several hits. This may help her sleep better at night knowing that she stopped him but that she wasn't the one who killed him.

She swore at a bus driver and lied about it during the investigation.

She clearly wasn't part of the "old boys network" in a department that has had repeated unpunished police beatings, one (still serving) officer that machine gunned another officer and lied about it, and lots of other illegal and against the rules stuff gone unpunished. The machine gunned officer got smeared by the department, but won over $4,000,000 the other day.

The media will use this to minimize her heroism in this incident. The other two "guards" stood around with their thumbs up their butts.

On Tuesday, authorities in Minneapolis revealed more about Assam's past.

Sgt. Jesse Garcia, a Minneapolis police spokesman, said Assam worked at the department from March 1993 to November 1997, when she was fired for lying during an internal investigation.

Sgt. John Delmonico, president of the Police Officers Federation of Minneapolis, said police were investigating a complaint that Assam swore at a bus driver while she was handling an incident on a city bus.

Delmonico said Assam was dealing with an incident on the bus and for some reason she swore at the bus driver as she exited the bus. The bus driver became angry and filed a complaint.

"In giving a statement about the incident, she was untruthful and she was fired," Delmonico said. The swearing was caught on tape, he said. "The union arbitrated the case and the arbitrator upheld the termination."

Larry Bourbonnais, a combat-tested Vietnam veteran, said it was the bravest thing he's ever seen.

Bourbonnais, who was among those shot by a gunman Sunday at New Life Church, watched as a security guard, a woman later identified as Jeanne Assam, calmly returned fire and killed the shooter.

"She just started walking toward the gunman firing the whole way," said Bourbonnais, who was shot in the arm. "She was just yelling 'Surrender,' walking and shooting the whole time."

Bourbonnais, 59, had just finished up a hamburger in the cafeteria on the sprawling church campus when he heard gunfire, he recalled.

He headed in the direction of the shots as frightened people ran past him looking to escape to safety.

"Where's the shooter? Where's the shooter?" Bourbonnais kept yelling, he recalled.
Near an entryway in the church, Bourbonnais came upon the gunman and an armed male church security guard who was there with his gun drawn but not firing, he said.

Bourbonnais said he pleaded with the armed guard to give him his weapon.

"Give me your handgun. I've been in combat, and I'm going to take this guy out," Bourbonnais recalled telling the guard. "He kept yelling, 'Get behind me! Get behind me!' He wouldn't hand me his weapon, but he wouldn't do anything."

There was an additional armed security guard there, another man, who also didn't fire, Bourbonnais said.

Bourbonnais yelled at the gunman to draw his attention, he said.

"First, I called him 'Coward' then I called him 'S---head' " Bourbonnais said. "I probably shouldn't have been saying that in church."

That's when the shooter pointed one of his guns at Bourbonnais and fired, he said.

Bourbonnais ducked behind a hollow, decorative pillar and was hit in the arm by a bullet and fragments of the pillar.

At about that moment, Assam turned a corner with a drawn handgun, walked toward the gunman and yelled "Surrender!" Bourbonnais said.

The gunman pointed a handgun at Assam and fired three shots, Bourbonnais said. She returned fire and just kept walking toward the gunman pressing off round after round.

After the gunman went down, Bourbonnais asked Assam, a volunteer security guard with the church, how she remained so calm and focused.

Bourbonnais said she replied:

"I was asking the Holy Spirit to guide me the entire time."

Still a Hero, so many reports come out of things like this, till LE has a Chance to look into it. So what he killed himself ,ain't gonna give him a special place in Hell. Woman walked out ,receiving gun fire and took him down to the point he offed himself as all of these jerks do ,messing up his ultimate plan.As far as the Mall security guys ,they were still armed ,minimum wage or not ,do your frigging job! This lady was not even getting money for her job, and she is being considered for a medal if the press don't mess that one up.

What gets to me is the media will dig anything and everything up on a person that isn't related to the incident at hand. Do I care that she was fired from a former job? NO!!! The media is trying to find the bits and pieces that will change the focus on an event.
How about each time a reporter does a story they attach all the short comings they have had in there life, so we can hold them under the bare bulb.

a lack of respect for anyone elses life.
Thats the key to everything right there!
Most people have respect for the life of someone else, while...well...others don't.

Live here in in Colorado Springs only know what they say on the news. But yesterday I heard one of the local talk radio hosts say, "I don't shoot to kill, I shoot to survive." Thought that was a pretty good sentiment.

gun or no gun, security officers are not there to intercept or intercede = they are there to take accurate notes and call the police with accurate information. Only when your life is in immidiate danger shall you pull your sidearm.

This is what was told to me when i did security guard training and test, i think its complete BS, but thats just me. Most people arent gonna risk their ass for a 8$ per hour job, and thats fine with me. HOWEVER! if you got a gun, and others dont when the sh*t hits the fan = i would feel OBLIGATED as an American to FIRE THE F*** BACK! SEND THAT MF'er TO HELL ON THE EXPRESS TRAIN. Or at least give him something to think about, if the shooter is taking cover it gives people a chance to flee. But thats not what there taught to do, and neither are Americans in todays age - sadly.

That being said, noone should take anything away from what this woman did - a glimmer of hope for humanity. SHE SHOULD BE GIVEN A MEDAL! hands down no negotiations, MEDAL NOW! We need to DEMAND it.

Very innacurate statement by the trainer of that course. An unarmed security guard is there to observe, take notes, provide detailed information to authorities etc. You don't get an armed guard so that he can protect just his own ass. What is the point of that?

An armed guard will have different priorities depending on his specific duties. For example, an armored truck armed guard is not there to stop or defend a parking lot shootout, he is there to guard and protect the money and his own life. That does NOT mean he is prohibited from saving an innocent life by interceeding. He may of course, get fired if he intervenes, if his employer is a jackass.

An armed guard in a mall, is there to guard and protect what? The individual stores? No, he is there to provide security and protection to the patrons and employees of the mall, and of course, to him or herself. That armed guard that failed to unholster and act should have his license yanked for deriliction. That is unforgivable, that he'd stand there, watch the shooter shooting, yet, not unholster. He is clearly not cut out to carry a weapon.

That guard that shot the guy, she deserves a medal. I don't care if she had been a freaking convicted felon in the past, been fired from every job she ever held or anything. NO ONE can diminish the fact that she acted selflessly, with complete bravery under fire. How many folks do you know who will advance in the open, on an armed lunatic who is firing openly at you? She's a hero in my book.:)
