To answer the question about the BAR....if he indeed has a REAL BAR then NO, the primers choice does not matter because the gun is SUPPOSED to slam fire. If it is a real full auto BAR it fires from the open bolt and any brand of primers will work fine. I had a WWII New England Small Arms (NESA) 1918A2 BAR that I shot many a reload out of....using regular old CCI large rifle primers.

I really miss that gun.
