Hey everyone,

I was wondering would keeping a can of component cooler with my gun stuff be a wise idea? The component cooler is the spray that you can use to test electrical circuits for thermal issues by making select components cold.

I was thinking it may help remove a badly stuck casing. Maybe spray a little into the chamber directly on the piece of stuck casing (for case seperation issues) then give the case extractor a try. I would think that the cooling effect on a casing would case it to contract and maybe help free it from the chamber. I got the idea after hearing a discussion at a gun store in which a guy had to cast some cerrosafe in a stuck case so he could tap out the case with a brass rod and hammer.

I've never heard of component cooler, but I use regular 'canned air' held upside down to test electrical forklift components. I also use it to kill bugs in places where a regular insecticides wouldn't be acceptable (it freezes them) It may work to shrink a stuck case .....

well not really sure of the amount of liquid that comes out of whatever he is spraying. i had a physics instructor that was using some sort of canned like liquid nitrogen as he was doing some stuff with ... whatever the point it is that it was super cold liquid and a lot of it that he was able to pump out pretty fast. so i would think that it woudl lower the temp pretty quickly and just didn't know what that could/would do to the metal.

Thank you for your input guys. I think I will abandon that idea. I figured that the risk to the barrel would be minimal but I guess a good penetrating solvent would work good with practically no risk of damaging anything (its not like there's a bunch of plastic or beautifully stained wood to be damaged).

Dave, using the compressed air to terminate insects sounds pretty interesting; I might have to try that when the wood spiders take over my workbench in my shed.

Chlorine gas for bugs.

Open shed door. Put bucket filled halfway with ammonia in shed. Paper cup with Draino is then dropped into bucket. Lock shed. Go to Micky D's for lunch. Unlock shed door and walk away... let air out. Send neighbors kid in shed later to get something to make sure it's safe.

Wa-lah. Probably nothing alive in a 100 foot radius of shed.

Good healthy pest control.

Or Tannerite... bugs don't particularly care for Tannerite.

Probably get the brass outta the barrel too....:D
