Only thing that would have made that GOOD would have been if it were the tangos PLANTING that IED instead of "friendly" Iraqi volunteers. Kind of a shame they weren't brighter, but then again, you can't be 100% all there to play with duds and unexploded ordinance!

I thought that was the porpose of the barret fifty, you find something like that you stand off and blow it up, you don't try to pry it out with your AK.

Geez, guess they never saw the famous scene from the great war film, "The Beast." Good movie about a Soviet tank crew in Afghanistan, recommended.

I sure the military has the means to detonate something like that in place, ie Grenade, any explosive placed near to the round. This was stupid.
My company is called in from time to time to detonate un-exploded ordinance on the range.
Unless I'm mistaken, these guys were friendlies. There were two Humvees standing by. If this is the case, I see no reason to celebrate this as entertainment. Perhaps a "What NOT to Do" training film.
There was a guy a few years back that was unfamiliar to explosives that was a helper on a shot for another company. He was trying to insert a cap into a 1lb booster,, they figured he was inserting it thru the wrong hole, and it went off. All that was left was his lower torso,,, everything was gone above the waist.

EOD "Urban Legends" or not?
I remember the story about the soldier demonstrating the "impact-detonated" hand grenades, he threw it up in the air and caught it like a baseball, vaporized himself in front of a crowd.
Or the 3 guys (Feds?) building pipe bombs for later demonstration, one forgot about FP on threads, screwed on pipe cap next to stacked bombs, BOOM! Daisy-chain effect, shredded meat.

My company did a shot several years ago,, it was big, and it required using Iron wire blasting caps. There is way more resistance in iron wire compaired to copper wired, which required nineteen series to do the shot,, normally there would be like half that. It was a rush towards the end of the day and sumpin bad happened,,, a HUGE misfire. I was brought in a week later to start the cleanup,,, we were missing 180 boosters in the mess. I was finding them everywhere,, under boulders,, laying in the dust.
The first one I found still had a cap in it,, bent,,, It was quite an experience pulling that cap out,,, mucho pucker factor. We got it cleaned up and reshot the burried boosters in the end,,, after five weeks!
We lost money on that one.

had some local kids here traveling to a decomissioned Army base. They spent their days digging up unexploded ordnance. (those kwazy kids!) Anyway, as they are merrily hauling away the days finds, they don't realize that much of their ordnance is spin activated. Their discovered rounds had simply fallen short into the soft mud, no detonation. As the rounds are bouncing around in their backpacks.........guess what???? Guess most of their bodies were recovered via a tree service cherry picker. Adds whole new meaning to the phrase, "kids, DON'T try this at home. These men are trained professionals."
