Heads up to the guys on the board here. There is a nice looking early type 1917a1 cradle for sale on ebay. Just search 1917a1 cradle it should come up.
It has one strange feature I have not come across. It has a pull type pin in the pintle that is attached to the cradle by a chain like the rear pin. Is this something added in the field or where some issued like this?

Looks to have the brass pintle block as well.
I'm sure it looks great under all that cosmoline.

Looks to have the brass pintle block as well.
I'm sure it looks great under all that cosmoline.

Capt Max, because of the time diference, ( it,s midnigth overhere rigth now}
i wil try tomorow to clean the pintle block area, you migth be rigth
it could be brass, but all that stuff is sticky like hell.
i wil let you guy,s know...

Allan, do you have one of the early sockets to go with that Crown Cork and Seal Leg?

Allan I remember carrying that heavy __s tripod all the way down to your trailer :mad: but that's what friends are for right?
John that cradle is a beauty and won't last long they are scarce in that condition. Very nice find my friend.
yes thank you Russ, :D all together I think about 7 1917a1 tripods got carried out of the creek and home with me. I heard OOW are out of them now ?

OK now DUH, Russ and I just talked about it and he did show me at the show what a correct WW1 "socket" or "head" should be. no I do not have one and now I have another thing to add to my "get " list

i just took a cloth and wiped some of that filfthy grease off
YOU ARE RIGHT !!! the whole pintle block is BRASS
it also has the correct short stack pintle

Very nice cradle John somebody will be very happy with this, she is a beauty! You certainly do find some great stuff.
