This weekend I dumped the last of my Tight group into my powder charger, so when my wife asked what I wanted for Christmas i told her more powder, then I got to thinking(dangerous I know), I've been using 5.5 grains with 230 grain home cast round nose,it's given me very good results, but I got to wondering what other people prefer for .45's, I always load on the light end of the spectrum for my 1911 and 1928 Thompson. So what do you like for powder? Thanks Bob.

I use 5.5 unique with a 230 RN cast from wheel weights and water quenched. This is a good useful load and chronos ok...though if I remember 6.0 is closer to what mil ball is going at but the 5.5 works well in my 1911 combat and national match as well as my 625 revolver

I 'm using that same recipe but I purchase my 230 RN form a local gun shop. it works great in all my 45's including my semi Thompson. and it has a very stiff action.

IMR 700X. It's clean burning and I use it to load all my non-magnum pistol rounds (380, 9mm, 38 super, 38sp, 357 mag mid range, 40 S&W, 44 mag mid range, 45acp, 45 Colt) and shotgun (12 & 20)

4.5 700x with a 230gr RNL works great.

W231

I use 5 gns Winchester 231 and a 200 gn semi wadcutter in my modified Gold Cup. It's on the low end for recommended charges. I have used Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot, and Green Dot, all work well, but the W231 is cleaner burning, and seems to produce more consistant results, probably due to the bulk density. The same load (5gns) is a mid range load for a 230 gn cast bullet.

Bang away, It's all good!

powder choice

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've never had to try many different powders, I found two pounds of the tite group priced really cheap when I started loading and I have just now finished it off, I'll tell my wife either of those, if I get lucky she'll buy me one of each. Thanks

Wonderwolf and I use the same load. I buy my bullets for now though...Need to find a mold of my own... He won't shoot my .45 reloads though(My evil plan works! :D ). He says the bullets I buy lead a bunch. I don't mind scrubbing a bit. Which reminds me...
