Just obtained another 1917 Machine Gun Cart brass tag. This one is for an ammo cart. However....I've never seen another one like this. It is noticeable that the tag has been in a fire. The low 5-digit number indicates that it was made by International Harvester and by the fact it is from the first few thousand, probably went to France. In fact, this tag was purchased on ebay...from France, near Lorraine, among the many places where heavy fighting occurred. In fact, recent info obtained relates to over 50K carts were left behind in France....most either destroyed in combat, given to the populace or destroyed by burning. After all....it was "the war to end all war". Yeah...right.
