God, I can't stand them, they waste my time.

Had a kit listed, started at $1400, I got two inquiries if I'd take $1000. Now why would I take $1000? Or take a Mosin-Nagant parts kit in trade?

That's why I often start listings at a minimum bid. In my experience with penny auctions the morons that ask a lot of questions and bid early are never those that bid to win- they're just wasting time.

Yeah, so maybe they hit it once in a while and get a deal. Not here. I think it's rude; I don't do it. If I make an offer, it's reasonable.

Sorry for the rant, they drive me nuts.

Rant,

Congratulations you have experienced examples of "sign of the Times". Those of us that advertise on a regular basis experience this daily. There are many in our society that think that they are special, want special treatment & something for nothing. Try to keep the faith as this is not going away.

That's why there is a delete button. Of course the other end of the stick is that there are some sellers that are fishing for some big dollar folks and they after a while will take a low ball offer. Which causes them to think that the rest of use can drop our prices as well.
Normally I price something and that's it. If an offer comes in and not within 5% or close then that delete button is used and real quick.

i never offer off trade. if you want retail price but want a trade from me at a reduced value, its not going to happen.

I do make lower cash offers for things and for those who have ahd those kits since they were $250 and are gettign no interest at $1400, $1000 may be within their acceptable range.

Same happens to me in return. I was offered $0.20 cents a round for all of my 54r recently. I wasn't offended, but i wasn't going to accept that offer either.

"Oh you are asking $XXX, well it's only worth $xx to me. If you wan't to sell it you know where to come". Normally right after this somebody will buy it for the starting price or end up getting into a bidding war and going over price. Part of me want's to email them the listing after it ends and just laugh at them.

I buy, I sell, I trade. I list no reserve penny auctions for stuff I want to clear out and start my minimum as an open bid for harder to find item's. I don't reply to low ball offers. The best I will do is wave CC fees and mabe shipping if it fits Priority Mail box.

See, you just have to have fun in life. Sure you will take a Mosin-Nagant in partial trade. A Mosin plus $1375 plus shipping.... yeah!

I will say I just offered a guy $200 for a Gunbroker listing with a starting bid of $735! Now thats for a Chauchat magazine which I think is only worth $200 but I could see why the guy might think its rude. Of course at $735 he is off his rocker...

To be frank, I don't think you should ever take an offer personally unless its meant as an insult. I will give you $5 bucks for that as thats all that $1k gun is worth... type stuff. You have to remember, young people don't always have money. Sometimes they offer what they have knowing that you will almost for sure turn them down but they just don't have any more to offer. I grew up in Train shows being into guns and warships...etc. I made some really low offers as that was all I had. Sometimes people took it. I don't know if they were just taking the low offer because they knew I barely had 2 dimes to rub together or because an offer is better than no offer... hard to say. Frankly I did not care, I had some new cool toy and I never was upset when turned down. It was not personal. Its just supply and demand. I have money, you have a product. At the point I will give my money up and you will give the product up... thats a fair deal. I feel like some of this is lost on the internet. Some 18 year old loving your gun and making you the only offer he can is slightly different than an old guy low balling you to see how much of a sucker you are. However in the end, unless its a piece of art you made, I have no personal feelings invested in what I own. A low offer is just kindly declined. To me there is no harm in an offer. I am fine with people low balling me, worst that can happen is I say no and thats not to much effort on my end. A lot of the times I ask them if they have any other MG parts and a few times they have other stuff I do want that they can trade with cash.

At least you are generally dealing with 'gun people'...Have you ever sold something on Craigslist?

For sale. 1 something. 500 dollars. No trades.

Responses: Will you take 30 bucks and a chainsaw and an old freezer in trade?

Totally not kidding. Ive been offered chainsaws, refrigerators and broken down 3 wheelers before.

Toolman is right for time of selling !!! I just got a deal of lifetime on gunbroker for M2 parts not one person bid me up. Me feeling guilty for getting such a good deal sent the seller full market value for the parts. Then you have those people who spend too much money on parts. Like 1919a4 Rivets, MSG sells them alot cheaper then what I have seen them go for. So I guess it goes both ways.

And she’s single and pregnant and has an uncle that’s going to give you the rest of the money in two weeks.

I am never offended by an offer, as long as the person is not offended if I don't take it. Things are always negotiable - just depends on the terms. I agree with you - most people do not make offers to offend, but to get stuff cheaper. I certainly do - based on what an item is worth to me .

+1 on what MG08 said. I would never be rude to a person making an offer you can just say no thanks. Not all 1919A4 kits are worth $1,400 and maybe they are seeing something that to them makes it seem like a $1,000 kit. You can always engage in a conversation.

I can get those for less than 200.00 should you need any  and I have dealt with a bunch of low ball offers over the past two years. Some just low and some just really stupid but I bite my tongue and try to be the better person and sometimes that is REALLY hard. I try my best to ignore them and pray they never reproduce!

That was a sweet rifle at a very fair price. I will sometimes take an offer if it’s within 5% if I really want to move the item. On the other hand, if there is a gun I really want and do not have all the money I will ask if I can make a 50% non refundable deposit and get 30 days to finish the transaction. If I offer a trade it is always worth more than what they are asking just so they come out ahead. I am not offended if they don’t accept my offers, nor am I offended by anyone making me offers. I just don’t like wasting my time or theirs.

I think that's the difference. These tire kickers throw out lowball offers that clearly are not reasonable; they're wasting my time. One jerk takes a few seconds to "delete" but a dozen of these a day takes more time, time that's wasted.

If I make an offer, at least I think it's reasonable; though the seller may not like the offer, I don't think anyone would ever say I lowballed them.

The other ones that drive me nuts are those that can't pay as requested. AFTER they win, they try to negotiate. Do you use BangladeshPay.com? Will you take a money order from Bank of My Printer? ...oh, I'll have the money in a month, can you ship now and I'll PP later?

95% of the gun guys you meet are great, 3% are awesome, and 2% are just plain assholes. I think this holds true for most any hobbie I am into. Some insist on mailing items to me before I pay, saying they want to be sure I like it first. I appreciate that they trust me like that but I would rather earn their trust first. Once you do a few deals with someone like that it makes it so much easier whether your selling or buying with them. There are many 3%’ers on this forum, you know who you are!!!
I prefer to offer items here first before Gunbroker for just that reason.
