Specifically, has anybody tried to see how surplus HXP and LC 30.06 groups using a quality bolt action rifle with a 12X, or better, scope. I'm talking about shooting from a bench using sand bags? I'm just curious to know how good this stuff really is. How about any of the quality older surplus .223 and .308 stuff; South African, German, Greek, Israeli, British, etc.?

A while back I tried to use some surplus 7.62 (Korean) to "get it close" before I started putting match ammo through a 26" heavy barreled bolt gun. It was utterly frustrating and a complete waste of time. The cheapest stuff I could find at Wal-mart was markedly better.

I'm not anything even close to a precision shooter, but I've had excellent results with the Portuguese 308 surplus, FNM 73, 74, and 76 headstamp. The ammo is far more accurate than I am.

My brother has an Obermeyer barrel in a Stiller action in 30-06. We are shooting in a week or two. Mounted with a Nightforce AtacR 25 Power scope. I have **** tons of HXP .30. He has only shot BR homeloads so far getting 1/4 at 100, 3/8 at 200 and 12" at 1000. We can put some HXP down the pipe to see. J

From Mil-C-46931F, Cartridge, 7.62mm NATO, Ball, M80, Paragraph 3.5.

3.5 Accuracy. The average of the mean radii of all targets of the sample cartridges, fired in standard accuracy test weapons over a range of 600 yards, shall not exceed 5.0 inches for ammunition scheduled for packaging in cartons or clips, nor 7.5 inches for ammunition scheduled for packaging in links.

Accurate enough for you?

I know what it says. I want to know from real shooting experience how it performs.

No experience with '06 since I still have pallets of Turk and Yugo 8mm, but had absolutely no problems ringing a gong at 200 yards with an old Russian capture German 98K using the same ammo that has turned many barrels into rebar. The surplus ammo is good enough.

I took out my original 1903A4 that is stock WW2 issue except it wears a M84 2.2 power scope with the post . I had my mil-spec M2 reloads , some old Hanson, and GI ball . At 100 yards all were over 2 but sub 3 inches for 10 shot . At 200 , my reloads were 4 inches or a bit better , the rest were 5-inches with some with a flyer that put them close to 6 for 5 shot groups . We then finished by shooting at a rock at 500 yards ( about metalic pig sized ) with some friends with modern high power rifles with highower scopes . By then it was starting to get hot and the air was moving good , but I kept up with them on hits .
