Looks kinda like those ones that IMA sold a while back. I actually know a guy who used them to tie down the tarp on his horse's hay.
Ha ha... I made up a pair of suspenders as a gag gift out of one.

They are the same as the IMA ones. Sportsman's Guide resells a lot of IMA's stuff. The can is only for 30-06. You would be better off buying the belts direct from IMA
http://www.ima-usa.com/product_info.php/cPath/4_215_98/products_id/558 The belts work for .308 and 30-06 (I use their belts).

The can attaches to the belt holding pawl pin, a part that is not designed to hold that much weight so it could break either the pin or the bracket eventually.

I bought one of these a while ago, and while it is for .30-06, it worked fine with my Izzy .308. The boxes won't fit without removing the cartridge stops, but if you're determined to use one you can always get an extra set and cut them down to work with the boxes. I took a quick picture so you can see how much room is left on them. Also, as I'm sure you know, .308 is shorter than .30-06, so there's going to be a lot of extra room in these boxes. The belts will hold .308, but it's a tight fit. I had to go stretch each hole by hand to get them in far enough, and by the time I loaded the belt my fingers were a little raw.

Also, these belts can hold .45 ACP convincingly, enabling you to perpitrate the myth that a 1919 can be converted to yet another caliber, and also proving that I have far too much free time.

Don't mind the scratches on the side, there, this one's seen a few range sessions.

that's the small can. i have that one and the big one that holds about 400 linked rounds. used them for my 1st man portable set up's before i had the annihalator pack made. sold that pack BA, and still have those IMA cans around somewhere in the bunker. i run 06 so may have to dig one out for the summer...:)

I've had the larger one for years too. To use on 308 just narrow your front cart spacer tang and rear cart guide tang that the holding pin goes thru and the can ears will fit down in there. One warning, with a fully loaded box it makes the gun really heavy on the left side. I used a bipod and as we know the bipod rotates freely axially so I removed the existing cap screws and installed longer ones which locked it from rotating so the box then worked good.

when hooked up, to compensate for the added weight with either the large or small can, i mount the a6 carry handle on the shroud backwards, handle pointed towards muzzle, and lock it down at about 10:00 rather than straight up 12. balances out ok, but nothing like a pred pack of course!
