Wanna help planet? 'Let's all just die!'
Group pushes to improve Earth's ecosystem by ensuring human species does not survive

"May we live long and die out" is the unofficial motto of a movement that seeks to improve the Earth's ecosystem by ensuring that the human species does not survive.

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement, or VHEMT, consists of volunteers who have made active life decisions to remain childless for the benefit of the Earth, thereby preventing the extinction of millions of species of plants and animals.

While no one person takes credit for being the founder, Les U. Knight created its name and is the spokesperson for the movement.

"We've already exceeded Earth's carrying capacity for humans by quite a bit," Knight told WND. "We are using up our resources. The best way to stop it is by not breeding. It's really the best way because the people we don't create don't exist, and so there's no impact on them."

VHEMT activists believe a smaller population will benefit the Earth by reducing human and environmental catastrophe.

"There is no problem on the planet that would be more easily solved by adding more people," Knight said. "Everything that we like, including clean air and clean water and wilderness to go and visit, all of those will increase as there become fewer of us."

Knight said the greenest habit humans can have is to prevent creation of another member of the species, reducing humanity's ecological footprint on the Earth.

(Story continues below)

Though VHEMT volunteers have made active decisions to not bring children into the world, Knight said he is not concerned that the movement will literally die out.

"It's an idea, and it's not transferred genetically," he said. "We aren't born knowing we should go extinct; we have to learn it. We don't need to create new humans in order to indoctrinate them from birth. All of us come from breeding couples, and yet we've decided not to breed."

VHEMT strives to increase the status of women in society with the stated goal of giving them choices besides motherhood by promoting "universal reproductive freedom." While Knight said the main goal of the movement is to prevent procreation, he claims it does not promote abortion or other methods of terminating life.

"There's no need for that. Contraception prevents abortion, and we'll be dead soon enough," he said. "Whatever it takes to avoid creating a new human is what we advocate."

As for the size of the group, Knight said he can only guess because the movement is not an organization that people can join. However, he provided an estimate of the number of subscribers to the VHEMT philosophy:

"There must be several million people who have arrived at the conclusion that we would be better off without humans."

When Knight formed the movement, he had one objective in mind:

"The ultimate goal is one I will never see," Knight said. "I will never see the day that there are no humans on the planet."
Got an idea....lets start with the freaking retard that thought this crap up and move onto his/her nutjob friends and the news network that published this crap, oh and Al Gore for starting the global warming....cough cough I mean global cooling hogwash. I could jump onto this wagon and make a fortune in my business by promoting it, but I don't believe in it, I still drive a gas guzzler and own 2 others that guzzle gas, that crap is like being force feed the belief that guns kill people, when its the other way around, people kill people.

Being pretty much just a Dumb farmer this crap always makes me laught. We haven't out grown the planet, we've out grown is the GREED. IF ALLOWED to do so, The American Farmer's can just about feed the world. This food shortage and stuff they're whineing about is something that has been CREATED in the last 20 to 25 years..Just before I got out of farmering in the last part of the 80's WE, the FARMERS!!! were REQUIRED to pay into a fund to pay for the STORAGE of surplus dairy products. There were MOUNTIANS of surplus corn piled on the ground in the corn belt because they didn't have any place to put it. There were frams that were in familys for over 100 yrs that were put under...You would not believe how much land I see with nothing being done to it around here.

So, what happened??? Greed.!!!!! ...Make NO MISTAKE, what we're seeing now is what we've been set up for.. For any one who thinks its the farmers, get over it. In this Country, the farmer is NOT the one who sets the price of the products they grow...Something that use to be a Joke when I was farming and probibly still is.. Farming is the only business in this country who gets stuck with the bill of anything that is shipped to him AND anything that gets shipped out..

RANT OVER ..Lou

Voluntary Human Extinction Movement.

I'd like to see all the world's nut jobs disappear just like the next guy. I'm thinking "Staples Easy Button." Leave them to their own devices.

That was easy!

Well, I'm a bit of a curmudgeon, and wouldn't mind at all if about half the world's population went away. But the VHEMT movement is a joke. For those of you who haven't seen the movie "Idiocracy", watch it, or at least the opening few minutes, and you get a pretty good treatment of exactly this mentality and its outcome.

Otherwise, yes, I'm glad there are people out there who are refraining from multiplying. The unfortunate reality, though, is that the ones we'd most like to see stop breeding are not going to be members of the VHEMT club. All too often, the most prolific breeding populations are the ones with the worst social and economic conditions, and will contribute more to dragging society down than to improving it.

I also believe our worst problem is overpopulation and eventually it will lead to the extinction of humans if not curtailed. Many people scoff and ridicule this idea but it does have a great deal of merit.

One of the greater problems that has already been mentioned is the disparagement between those who are useful and those who are not. My guess would be that somewhere between two thirds and three quarters of the population are non-producers which mean the other one third or one quarter are forced to support them specifically under UN mandate.

Even though I have seen this for some time I would not be in favor of lining people up and marching them off the face of the planet mostly because I might very well find myself in the same line and that would not be good at all, at least for me the way I see it.

Many of the problems we face today are caused by excess population. If the number of our people were for example cut in half we would probably be paying $.33 a gallon for gasoline as I did when I begin driving in 1960.

Also if our numbers were less we would not need to spend so much time fighting for our rights like the second amendment as we do now. Less people equal less rules.

While excess population is something that needs to be looked at, it will still be the Greed that will do use in. We have been STEARED in this direction .As all of these topics seem to center around the use of oil, look around at how we waste it..For the most part, this Country has gone kicking and screaming into fuel efficient cars..We like BIG SUV's, 4WD trucks, etc, and thats just to make a couple mile run to the store...

The thing that REALLY gets to me and shows how BAD and Annal we have become, is the Remote car started..We not only waste gas with some of the things we drive, there are those who do it while there not even in there car!!!! Just so there Butt doesn't have to sit on a cold seat.. Makes me wonder how many of our Troops will DIE for THAT little comfort..( Insect really MAD face)....Lou

Yes, it does have a great deal of merit. Someone above posted that we have the farmland to feed the world - but as our population increases that farmland becomes real estate. Flat agricultural lands also make good building sites. Around here we see a lot of the old ranches being broken up and sold to housing developers. That means that we have less ability to produce food, and more mouths to feed. And we're still the amateurs at this. China, despite its mandate that couples should only have one child, still has a far greater population than it can feed. So they are buying up food from other countries. That's why there are rice and other food shortages happening in some countries.

Lou is right about the greed factor. We have a culture and economy based on conspicuous consumption. We get caught up in the need to buy things - lots of things. When the economy hits a snag, people stop buying so freely, so the government tries to get things going again by giving us incentive checks to get us buying things again. We're so conditioned to this lifestyle that we don't think about it - but if you live for a little while in another country, especially a third world country, you suddenly see the difference.

I have friends/family in a third world country, and I periodically visit them. The first impression is always the negative "you can't buy anything here". But once you settle in to the fact that the necessities are available and only the more wasteful, unnecessary items are missing, you start noticing that they still have a lot of the features of society that our culture seems to be losing. In the case I'm familiar with, crime is way below U.S. levels. It's actually safe for a person, even a woman alone, to walk along the waterfront at three in the morning. People are friendlier, families values are stronger. People might not be wealthy, but they help each other more openly and freely. We still have some of the "old values" in rural settings in this country, but rural settings are getting scarcer.

But getting back to the overpopulation issue - The more crowded we become, the more we compete for dwindling resources. Even without Lou's greed factor, this leads to problems. But add the greed and wastefulness of our modern societies and things can get nasty. Biologically, large crowded populations are also great disease factories. More "walking incubators" growing and spreading germs, and more unhealthy slums and ghettos to provide disease-generating conditions. This is one of the reasons I oppose illegal immigration. If we become the overflow tank for other countries, taking in all their poor diseased wretches, we acquire their overpopulation problems, their economic burdens, and their health conditions.

Well, it's early in the morning and I'm rambling. I'll end here.

If those people are so concerned with overpopulation that they welcome human extinction, perhaps they SHOULD be sterilized, I mean really, do YOU want mentally-defective people breeding?

I'm talking about the kind of people walking around like zombies (I see them and so do you, so doped-up they belong as an extra in a zombie movie) mumbling "global warming" in a 24/7 trance, I don't want people like that in the gene pool. ;)

Rory,

I've known for a long time you couldn't be a typical Lib, you see how insane some of them are.

That article is more than likely NOT a joke, I've heard some people really say this sh*t, but they were "too high" to think about anything logical, seriously, 3 "space cadets" out of this group became doctors, my wife is ashamed to call them relatives. See "Idiocracy" for clarification. :D

I can think of a much better argument for not fathering a child, that is way better then "benifiting the earth"...............not paying child support and giving away 1/2 your **** and income to a *****, while you end up living in a cardboard box under the west 14th street underpass.

well i believe that this is possible. for this group to exist but on such a micro scale that there is no reason to publish it with such star power. i really do loath this "news" portal. such asinine drivel. my grandmother reads the stuff and all the sudden she thinks that this really is the new fad, and that soy turns people gay (another one of their brilliant articles).

i believe this just as much as i believe the onion
