I guess this is where to post this, its for building the Brownings and such? I just got several pieces of used equipment in, most are very old but high qaulity. Two pieces have 3 phase run in oil motors-sealed. My question is can I use aircraft hydraulic fluid in them or what? I can not buy transformer oil here is less than 55 gal drums:eek: Will any non conductive oil work? I don't want to ruin anything. Please post, PM, email, send smoke signals or whatever if you can help, Thanks, Hotch

If the motors are running in full emersion internally the oil should be a diaelectric oil, one that doesn't conduct electricity as in oil filled transformers. If they are old, you might have PCB in them which is toxic. HTH

Pics

The Standard Electric Tool Company SER # 4CCGA is one monster of a grinder/sander and has a GE 3 phase run in oil motor and this is the main thing I want the oil for. Its empty but when you sart it its wisper quiet and has boocoos of power. The Grinding and Polishing Machinery Co out of Indianapolis is still in business so I am going to write them a letter about this piece. It appears to have some sort of grease in it so maybe it didn't have oil? I don't know what they used it for but I saw a pic on the net with one mounted on a large lathe doing enternal buffing. I think its out of Boeing Wichita originally. Thanks for any ideas, Hotch
