I have this water chest. It seems to be s second series, however, it has what looks like cut outs on either side by handle.

Can anyone tell me they have seen this before and have any info on it?

Thanks in advance. Gas

Have not seen that before, it is a feature that is not present on the original drawings either. I am still waiting to see a 1936 verion of the M1 chest, got excited when I saw your thread title.

K. I am not familiar with those cuts myself and don't recall seeing them before? I hope someone chimes in that knows because now you have me wondering.

Any ideas on price as it is?

The mods were done real nice and there is a nice makers mark on the top.

Thanks again

It might be a field mod so it can be strapped down securely in a vehicle or ?. I have a strap run through mine on the M4A1 MG cart to hold it in.
