I was wondering about the importance of the buffer in the back plate? How does it work? Can it be substituded With some other creation? Where I'm going with this is I want to install spade grips by making a new back plate specifically made to attach the spade grips. Is there a big spring, or washers behind the screw? What kind of preassure am I looking at to compesate? Any help will be appreciated.

it's important in the fact that it does absorb some of the pounding from the bolt which keeps the backplate from separating from the sideplate.
I believe there has been some luck using heavy die springs in place of the buffers(hard composite disks) inside the backplate, just make sure the spring doesn't compress to the point that the recoiling bolt makes contact with the backplate itself.

For the most part a homeade one with a similar density, they are really dense, will do the same thing. Lets face it though, having a correct buffer on a semi gun is about as important as having a trunion protector. You just arent going to shoot it enough to wear the thing out.

Not to be too simplistic, but the buffer disks have been in there for 50+ proven years...I think I'll stick with them a little longer because the only way you'll know if something different works or not in the long term is when you wake up after surgery:).

The spade grips I bought from ORF?(I don't remember) have a white plastic cylinder in them like Corion. I have also never used them.
I recently bought new disc sets for my A4s and M2s in case they suddenly become made of "unobtainiun".
This is often an overlooked part of a build. They should be checked for deteriation/contamination and correct number of discs.
