How are you guys figuring out NSN codes?

Here's what I've been doing to try to id some parts. If the part has an NSN number on it, I type it into google and usually a couple of hits comeback. Unfortunetetly the results are usually the same after that. What I mean is that when I click on the link it takes me to a page which IDs a part as something so basic in description it might as well be worthless.

For example, I've got a part which has an NSN of 12524076. When I google it, it comes back "pawl, shaft assembly". OK, that is more than I had but is there any site I can search to get beyond the basic simple description? Like a site which could tell me what gun/platform the part goes into?

Thanks.

Sorry you probably already tried those addresses in my previous reply. Yes they give only very basic information. The military system may give more information. Sometimes you can tell a little by the first four digits (federal classification code) like 1005 (small arms), Others (taken from the TM) would be like 1010 (Mortars), 1015 (recoiless rifle, 105 Howitzer) and so on.
