The 1917 type US wooden 30 cal cans that had a 45 degree cut on the feed side of the can was put there to clearance what tripod again. I boght a Colt 1928 tripod reciently and own already square ammo boxes(without 45degree cut) And I'd like to stick to just one style of wooden can.

Anyone got a for sure answer....

I read that thread

It was more on how the boxes would most likely not work on the 30-06 and 8mm because of the width and how the mounting slots were not present in the pictures to hang the boxes. I don't recall anything about the 45 degree relief to clearance obstructions. There was a purpose for the cut but what tripod. One guy thought it only refered to the 1917 or 1918 pods.

Thanks Kabar2

Thats where I read it but the article still doesn't indicate the tripods which had the clearance problem. We'll just have to try when the tripod comes.
