International Military Antiques has an add in the ShotGun News selling .30 cal Browning 100 round cloth belts for $8.95. You have to call and give the ShotGun News code (SN88S).
I ordered a few before posting this deal just in case they might run out!!!

they work with 308 they are just tight

soak the belt in water

drape it over the top of a piece of pipe so that it has even ends hanging over each side

tie 25 pound dumbells to each end

let hang dry then load

You do not need to do any of this. They load up just fine.

all the belts i got from IMA were white and they were tight with .308
My steel 1918 loader has issues stuffing .308 into them and i find stretching them when new by my above method helps alot.

your mileage may vary

I'm going to try this. I have the green IMA ones; once stretched for x51, they work fine... hard on the fingers until.

from everything i have read, the green belts from IMA are much easier to load than the white ones, but i dont know, i got 30 belts from them, when these first hit the market and all of them are white and are a royal PITA to load.
the only way i find to make them easy to load is to pre stretch the belt a little bit, and even then its a real PITA.
after they have sat with ammo in them for a couple days, and after you shoot them one time, they are easy to load, but brand new, they are super tight with .308

before i tried the water and 25 pound weight trick, i would stuff each individual pocket individually. Id just lift the needle bar on the loader, and load it one round at a time.
after they have sat with rounds in the pockets for a few days and you shoot them once, it becomes much easier to load, but that first time was a PITA with my white belts

if you are trying to stuff any belt with your fingers, man, i feel sorry for your poor blistered hands!! I will bet money on it that you will be investing in SOME type of belt loader in short order - good luck, been there :)

Current price 12.20.08 - 12.95 per belt

Just a bump. I just got mine, and looking for belts or links, and noticed that IMA still have them, just a bit pricer - not like that has happened with *anything* gun related since November 4th. :)

If you are an IMA customer, it is worth checking there website for their many specials. Free Shipping, 30% off, etc.
The $8.95 price was one of those special sales that I found through this board. Thanks again to all.

They seem to know marketing and gun collectors equally well LOL.
