I've decided to make a drastic change in my life. I'm going to go from being a department manager at a local grocery store to a US Army soldier. I'm psyched!!!

I just got through MEPS last Tuesday. The worst part was the gay doctor that gave me my physical. He was probably about 70 years old and when we got to the drop your pants part he puts on one rubber glove and then proceeds to use both hands to "check me over". Talk about being freaked out!!!

Other than that I'm excited. My MOS will be a 45K, Armament Repairer. Supposedly I'll work on everything from small arms all the way up to an MLRS rocket system! I can't wait to get started!

I ship out on 22 January. The idea of boot camp makes me nervous. But I know I can do it. I'm not fat but I'm not the most athletic type person either. So I've been doing some working out before my ship out date...

If anyone has any advice, I'd sure like to hear it!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

In addition to the running ahead of time, you probably want to start learning the "Forward Lean Position"... You'll likely learn that the "up" position of the pushup is the place where you'll spend some time when people screw up in the first few weeks. I'm not saying you, but ANYONE in your platoon, and the whole group gets it!

EITHER way, WE ARE PROUD OF YOU!

Matt,

Congrats! Start doing 100 push ups and running (at least) 5 miles a day. ;)

To make a long story short, been to MEPS 3 times, I know what you mean about the creepy old docs, even had one "gender-challenged" individual insist he had to watch me pee in a cup, enraged Sgt ran him off, it was the Clinton-era.

I did the MEPS thing twice, it was a big thing for me, first time really being around blacks and i geusse they could tell that so they put me and a black fella in the same hotel room. The whole thing of strippin down in front of 20 guys i dont know for a older guy i dont know to rub me down was scary, then there was the scariest of all was on my second trip knowin theres a chance i may not be accepted like i was the first go around.......i still couldnt make it in. Tried one more time and they told me tough ****, you cant come in.

Soo, i bought a bunch of millitary guns and played millitary ever since, except im the SGT, Kernal, Captain and all, well, except when the wife is around. But i do get to wake up when i want and i sure as hell dont do 100 pushups or run 5 miles. I still wish i could of made it in.

I envy you, BIG TIME.
CONGRATULATIONS!!

At some point and time you will meet some people who don't seem to care about the decision you have made, but rest assured that the majority is behind you 100% . Thank You !

I was in the Army (Nat Guard). Basic was OK,,we ran and did PT every morning. Push ups and set ups were the norm,,oh yea Jumping Jacks too. Enjoy the grass drills!! Thank you for your future service,,my son just finished boot camp for the USMC,,seems the big sign on bonus is for infantry jobs. Do you know where you are going for boot?

Thanks for all the support guys! I'm getting really excited and I still have more than a month to go!!

I'll be going to Ft Jackson, SC for boot camp for 10 weeks. Then I'll go to Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland for 15-19 weeks for my training in my MOS.

Like I said, I'm excited!!!

Congratulations! if i recall the physical fitness test is as many pushups as you can do in 2 minutes ,as many situps as you can do in 2 minutes and a 2 mile run. ask your recruter for for the chart that outlines the standards for physical fitness. shoot for the max because higher ups look kindly on very fit solders. good luck and stay safe:D

good luck you will need it

ahh, basic training good ****. as a 17 year old kid i joined and before i knew what hit me i was at ft.benning home of the infantry getting my ass smoked by the biggest blackest drillseargent i had ever seen. know i dont know were your basic is but i hope it is benning because its the best training in the army.
I can honestly say it was the best time of my life 9 staight weeks of learning to kill, PT, brm, makes my dick hard just thinking about it. if your nervouse dont be, yea sure the first day or two is pretty ruff you start to think what have i done but after you get settled in you will have whats called a battle buddy or bunk mate you will wach this mans rear and he will do the same. he will help you make it through and you will do the same. also drill seargents arent super human there just normal guys like your self sure at first he will be a dick but after the break down faze he becomes a freind and mentor. i could go on and on but i will spare you. if you want to know ANYTHING dont hesitate to ask me i can give you the lowdown on the whole thing
one more thing run run run pushups pushups pushups situps situps situps prepare your self it will make it easier
