OK,, so I traded my 24/47 for a beautiful M48,,, I picked up a K 98 repro sling from E gun parts. I got it set up by myself and as it turned out,, correctly according to Surplus Rifle,, http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauser98k/slinginstallation/index.asp

Question is this,, Is there any attachment of the keeper to the stock? As it stands, the sling is correct, but the keeper is justa-swingin-in-the-wind. It is brushing against the right hand as it protrudes from the right side of the stock,, were they tacked to the stock,, just can't imagine that they were as mine is????

If I understood that right, then yes, that piece is annoying as all heck. I don't see how it was designed that wqay for a rifle of such production numbers. That little nubber gets inthe way of my hand everytime I shoot the mauser.....:rolleyes:

OK, then I'm not crazy. I think two or three brass nails might be in order. Being a M48, its not a real valuable gun,, I don't think it will be a bad modification.

Only thing is now I'm am thinking another 24/47 might be in order,,,

Haha, yeah.....one can never sell a gun and have it be gone for good.

Im suprised no one else has chimed in about the mauser sling problem. It's very well known that it gets in the way, I just wonder why it was designed that way....?!?!?!

Authentic K98 slings were made much better than todays reproductions the keeper has a friction fit just snug up the sling and let it sit. The sling on the K98 was meant for going over the shoulder not for braceing against. They shot their rifles off-hand, and snugged up the sling when not in use.
