Hey guys, I am going in tomorrow morning. Been thinking about this for a long time, but my eyes are getting to the point where it's driving me crazy. Always wore glasses or contacts for distance, but now my close up vision is all screwy and getting worse. Rather than messing with multiple pairs of glasses, or bifocals, I am getting the distance part fixed for good. I'll still need some reading glasses, but that was going to happen either way. Now it will be a bit simpler to go back and forth.

I may get the PRK where the cornea flap is cut by a blade, rather than done by laser. My cornea thickness seems to dictate that, but a final decision is made in the morning. If so, then only one eye gets zapped tomorrow, and I have to come back for the other. In either case, I am getting the fancy, computer mapped and guided lasek correction. Since old Lucky doesn't believe in luck, I won't ask for any here. However, your thoughts and prayers will be welcome. Thanks, gentlemen! :)

Prayers and well wishes to you Lucky. It's a tough decision to make dealing with your eyes so be careful with them after the surgery. Chris

i dated this bird a few years ago that could not see what shampoo or conditioner she was grabbing in that shower without her glasses. convinced her to get the lasek thing. i mean really, at that point it is a safety issue. 1 million times better. i guess it got a little worse over time so she needs some light reading glasses but that is all.

i watched the surgery. it is pretty gruesome and i kept thinking about a clockwork orange but really sooo worth it.

i guess what i am saying is go for it!

I did it about 10 years ago, the best part is when they take you back to put the drops in to dialat your eyes start screaming about the pain. The nurse I had just about turned white, I had the whole waiting room shook up. It's a wonder the doc didn't do a little payback for that one.

Just remember, keep looking at the red dot, even when they cut the flap and everything goes blank:eek:

Good luck tomorrow Lucky!! :D;)

You don't need it though. My aunt does this stuff for a living back east and she says it's super easy and safe anymore. I'm sure you'll be in good hands. Our thoughts are with you down here!

I'll say a word for you tonite Lucky. Had mine done about four years ago - same as you, both for distance - and I love it. You'll be amazed what you can see right out from under the laser. If you're really lucky, Lucky, you'll get the happy meds my doc gave me before the surgery. He could have cut my leg off. I couldn't have cared less. :D

Best thing ever

The army did mine several years ago and I never regreted it. Once you get past the temp contacts(PRK only) and the millions of eye drops it is awesome. Being able to read the alarm clock without glasses the next morning made it all worthwhile.

Good luck

I've thought about having it done myself, but I've been wearing glasses since 6 and still only bifocals.

Good luck.

I had mine done 6 months ago. I had Coke bottle glasses and wore contacts. Now I have 20 20 vision. No pain,,they give you a sedative,,they have a thing that holds your eye lids open,,they use numbing drops,,the laser comes on,,look at a red light,,your eye sight goes white,,they pour cold water,,its done in 5 seconds or so. Then they do the other eye. You will not feel any pain. They put a "bandage" contact on each eye and remove it in 2 days, PUT THE DROPS IN 4 TIMES A DAY. After a month you should be over it. Older people take a little longer. Just do what he says to the letter!!They can make one eye for close work and one for far,,,I had both for far since I dont do close up work. Im 46,,PRK is best...The Flap is or can be bad if it does not heal right. Also PRK can take less surface off and you can go back in a yr and get more off(if needed). Once too much is removed it will not grow back.I did not have to go back for any touch ups!

Thanks for all your prayers, good wishes and stories. This close up stuff is kind of fuzzy now, but once everything heals and I get some reading glasses....

Anyway, I got my left eye PRK'd and am doing just fine. No pain, it's just eyedrop city for a while. I can already see fairly well out of it, but still fuzzy overall. I have a soft contact in the right eye, so all looks good out of that one. First check up in at 9:00 tomorrow morning. Hope to get the right eye done next week. Again, thanks for all your encouragement. I have been anxious to do this for a while, so I am glad to be halfway home. :D

I got mine done back in the good old days - with a razor blade.

Best money I ever spent. Went from 20/300 and 20/400 to 20/20 in both. You'll be amazed at what you have been missing in regard to your freedom and not being anchored to contacts or glasses.

Rollin,
I wish you luck, I truely do. My Brother had it done a few years back and other than night vision problems is very happy with the results. Me, I wear bifocials, which arn't worth a ****, I still have to take them off to look at close work, just something you get used to, I guess. I won't have it done, I have a hard time with eye drops, let alone someone cuttin' my eyes.

I wish I saw this post earlier.

Did you ask about seeing Halos at night?
I had mine done 8 years ago both at once. 20/25 I didn't like the 20/25 and they redid the left eye to 20 ( same eyes even). It took a while but the halos are minimal at night. Better than scratched glasses!. I spent $2700/eye and the tune up was free. It was well worth it and has since paid for it's self.
Advice:
Wear the goggles to bed for longer than they say to, over a week.
Be very careful with shampooing, soap in the eyes while they are healing is murder.
Use a wetting solution, if they didn't give you some, ask.
Follow all post care instructions to the letter.
If you see ANY white flashes or Any flash see the doc immeadiately.
The hardest thing for me to get used to was while taking a shower.
I would go to take off my glasses and come up empty. I did this repeatedly for months. :D
The best thing is women don't take my glasses off and put them somewhere (where I would have absolutley no hope of ever finding them) and leaving early in the AM.
Good luck with your new face!

Way to go Lucky,,,I got both of mine the same day. Your eyes will be good in a few days then kinda "off" then way better. The "halo" effect will go away after a month(+-). Just dont rub them right now. Every one is different but you will be happy in 1 month and even better in 2-3 months. Make sure you use the drops and make your check ups. My wife works at the eye doctors office so mine were free and she was on me every 4 hours for the drops. It will take some time to get eyes to 20/20 but dont rush it.
