Yeah, $3k + is a lot of ammo.
With .22 LR at 3 cents per round and 8mm at 6 cents if you factor the 3 cent per round difference into a difference in gun price of only $2k you'd need to shoot the Tippman about 67k rounds to reach the break even point.
They are a really cool looking gun though and would be nice to have.
