Update: PRICE REDUCED to $8500.00 ....

I'm putting in electricity up at my hunting shack, and it appears the co-op wants that much to run electric power a tad over 1/2 of a mile to my place. Sooooo........gotta place this up for grabs. I listed this on Sturm board, but thought I'd place a note here. If you are interested, take a look at the pdf file....it has info and link to pics and a clip.

Thanks....

...screw 'em....!!!

The hell with the electric co. +1 on a small wind generator...cheaper than gas or diesel. Or...just run your own electric line, bury it and just have them hook it up. I don't play well with others....LOL....

A bud of mine was looking at $18,000.00 to run a line to his house in New Hampshire. Like you, he doesn’t need AC. For $14,000.00 he put in solar panels and a battery bank. You’re probably looking at a much smaller system. Heat, stove, and drier are propane. There are even propane refrigerators available; they’re very common in Scandinavia. The best part: no monthly electric bill.

Won’t work in the Southeast, we’d melt.

Solar, Wind, and Generators?

Thanks for the suggestions guys - I guess I should have included the fact that we plan on relocating by next year and building a home there, so we will need full power. I've run generators for the past 19 years up there, when using the house trailer - I'm tired of hauling, loading, unloading, filling with fuel, and repairing/replacing them. Can't leave anything sit up there due to break-ins and robberies. Heck, I had a snow plow stolen from inside the gated road some years back -they had to have a heck of a chore lifting that thing over the gate and into a truck!

Even if the house plan doesn't work out, I'm totally ready for power and a well for water. (been hauling five gallon jugs for 19 years too!)

I've had the .50 for a few years now, and quite honestly, there is very little opportunity to shoot a belt fed .50 BMG in the parts of Wisc. I frequent - and besides, I'll still have my Ferret 50 bolt action for serious long range turkey hunting! :D

Brass,, I have a buddy of mine that has lived off the grid for the last fifteen years,, he has six solar panels and eight deep cycle batteries,, he has toyed with a small wind generator and has a small generator for heavy use things like saws and drills.
This being said,, he lives alone and has quite the spartan lifestyle,,, a composting toilet and an out house etc,,, those are his personal choices and with a few more panels could live quite lavishly. He has a hand pump by the sink,, but a 12 volt pump in his cellar located well,, a wood fire cookstove, (free hot water)but also a propane stove,, he has surrendered to modern day science with a propane power refridgerator. Also has a propane fired on demand hot water heater,,, but that takes water under pressure and he doesen't want to "waste" his 12 volt,,, so summers, he uses an outdoor woodfired HW heater. You get the picture,,, but he does live quite comfortably on very little in his log cabin,, has a cell phone,, 12 volt TV,, radio, and all the lights he wants. Taxes and propane are his biggest expences,, and the propane for the most part is for his refridgerator.

in a lot of ways i am like your buddy but i am on the grid in a log cabin i built i heat by propane (20Lb. bottles ) and even with AC (a must down here ) my rural co op my power is about equal to my land taxes 1200 bucks a year i live ok not lavish just me and Da Macaw the one thing i did was run my power underground my self so the meter is out on the road (a dirt road off a dirt road) that way the power company doesnt "own "but a 10 foot square around the meter instead a of strip all the way back to the house and the power company right of way is OUT side the solid gate, i looked into alternate power but it was way too expensive i do have a couple of gen sets for when i get hit by a hurricane and the grid is knocked out

I've been using propane for heat for some time now, along with a box wood stove during the colder months. Last time we had a get together there for shooting it dipped to -31 degrees, and the propane heater couldn't handle that! lol

As far a boobie traps - trust me, it was mulled over seriously many times, but I just didn't want the liability if some innocent person got hurt instead of a creep perp., so decided not to pursue it. Camera's were an option, but without power it's hard to keep them charged and working during the "cold months" that we arent there. I have a neighbor 1/2 mile up the road now that kinda watches the place ...sort of, when they can. He has a key for the gate and goes in periodically, not to mention drives by the gate everyday going to work. That helps.

BFF and RR - I think I could probably live and enjoy myself with the bare essentials, but my wife would only last about 8 hours and 15 minutes (that's being liberal!) She gonna get a nice two story modern home with a jaccuzzi and all that female decorative stuff, or we don't go! (chuckle) I've waited 31 years to get there, and spent the last two and a half convincing her to make the move into 160 acres of woods - she was dead against it. I guess it's a small price to pay to be able to hunt, shoot, and watch the wildlife from my back porch or deck. I hope it is anyhow! :D

Do you have a constant creek or river running yearly on your property? Hydro is the way to go along with wind and solar. You'll probably have to do an environmental impact study when you build the house, include a mini hydroelectric generator with it. I'm just thinking out of the box, but this is the conclusion that I've come to for when I move.

If Mike J. in Arizona can do it with a wife, anyone can!

Great price on the M3 setup brass...it should go quick. I sold mine last year cuz I just don't (didn't) have time to reload the ammo. Good luck.

They'll still steal from you if you put in a power line.

They will steal the wire you just paid for to sell as scrap
at the metal processors.

You put in a well and they will steal the pump head.

They will steal the well casings.

Only way to do it is build first and move in with portable power.
Including the well drilling.

Then either pay for the drop wire or go independent with your
own power company vis a vis solar wind power.

Or get a lot somewhere further out of the path of thieves,
as it sounds like they are familiar with the area and you may
end up with breakins every time your gone for a few hours.

You probably have a sheriff that doesn't like to patrol the
boonies all that regularly too.

Deputies: Man's Copper Theft Attempt Shocking

By LISA A. DAVIS | The Tampa Tribune

Published: April 16, 2008

LAND O' LAKES - Just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Lisa Urena heard an explosion and then noticed her power was out.

She looked across her property at 25146 Hyde Park Blvd. to the Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative substation, saw a man in the restricted area and assumed it was a power company employee, according to a sheriff's office report.

Urena told her husband, Luis, what happened, he went over for a closer look and noticed the man in the blue shirt with orange reflective tape had bolt cutters.

"Is everyone OK?" Luis Urena asked.

The man stood up, appearing "incoherent and dazed," and said he was fine, the report said. But blood dripped from his ears, nose and mouth. His arms were skinned. A moment later he climbed over the fence and picked up a copper wire while Urena continued questioning him.

"My boss told me to get some copper wire," the man reportedly said.

As it turned out, he man wasn't wearing a Withlacoochee Electric uniform; it was from a towing company.

Luis Urena offered to summon medical help but the man declined, saying he had a warrant out for his arrest, according to the report. The man asked Urena to drive him home, and at that moment Urena suspected the stranger was stealing the copper.

At that point, Urena asked his wife to call 911 and she went inside their home. The man followed, reportedly taking the phone from her as she spoke with dispatchers. Then he ran out of the house and Luis Urena chased him.

A few minutes later, a deputy arrived and joined the pursuit into the woods. More deputies arrived and soon the suspect yelled for help, saying he couldn't walk and was in pain, according to the report.

They helped him walk out of the woods and could see his left hand was severely burned and three fingers were charred and missing flesh. He had more burns and cuts on his face and other parts of his body.

The suspect was flown by medical helicopter to Tampa General Hospital, where his condition wasn't known Wednesday. Sheriff's office spokesman Doug Tobin declined to release the man's name, saying he likely will face theft charges.

The punishment in this case certainly exceeded any crime, Tobin said.

"Walking into a substation is about as dangerous as you get in risking your own life," the spokesman said.

Signs around the power company facility state: "Warning Keep Out! Hazardous voltage inside. Can cause serious injury or death. Authorized personnel only."

The report said the suspect left behind a black leather bag containing crescent wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, tin snips, a hammer, copper bolts and gloves.

He apparently had cut the copper wire leading to a transformer, leaving about 5,300 customers without power for about two hours, the report said, and causing at least $10,000 in damages – and possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars more.

, my friend take a bit of advice for me now, this is by observation only mind you
Dont Clear More Than YOU Want To Have To MOW :p cause i see it all the time she will want it nice and short and manicured
That's why SHE has a riding mower BFF :D

Thanks for trying to cheer me up raysosc! :D

Most of the break-ins were kids getting into mischief. My place was ideal 'cause it can't be seen from any roads. I'm sure once I'm there I'll be able to control the riff-raff. A few strategically placed tannerite charges on the escape routes and a scoped .308 should work nicely :)

BTW, I saw the thread on donation challenges. If this sells to someone on this forum, the first $300.00 goes to shots and his forum slush fund!
